Woof. Dave and Dan are smart enough to understand what the deal is with Bryce. They just have to convince Tepper that we have to move on.

Are they?

They've been unwilling to rip the Band-Aid off for months going into years.

The issue is that the NFL insists on extending "franchise QB" money to mid-tier or worse starters. If your guy isn't legit MVP caliber then you're probably better off letting someone else pay him and moving on. But GMs and coaches want to keep their jobs so they pay these guys fearing the alternative. Let him walk and implode and you're fired. Sign him to franchise QB money and you can probably limp along for another 2-3 years before the cap hits start strangling the life out of the roster and maybe you can even exceed expectations if you can draft really well.

That's why you see "outs" after about 2-3 years in most of these deals. They look nuts on the surface but they are largely more short term nuts than long term nuts.

A lot of them also have poisonous terms, as well. Look at Lawrence and his price jump to $70-80 mil a year when it is easy to cut them. That's so they can renegotiate or get out.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
