With these FA moves, PFF guys don't know who to mock to us

I just thought that this was interesting, even if it seems like they're kinda throwing crap against the wall. They generally don't know which way to go--we'll go--based upon our needs relative to their assigned players' and general positional value. But during their three-round mock, they landed on

1. Omar Cooper

2. Eli Stowers

3. Jake Slaughter

They weren't necessarily crazy about the picks, but think these are some good players. They said something to the effect that they thought making our picks would be easy, but the addition of our two new defensive cornerstones, now it's hard.

Dan and the FO have really done a great job so far of putting us into a position of taking the BPA (not that their finished in free agency). I just think that it's interesting to ponder how positional value is going to play in our draft equation. Tillis, with his PFF background, may be going through similar mental exercises.

You know me though. I'm not gonna cry over a receiver, especially a legit route runner, in the first. That would be three years in a row, which seems kinda weird, but perhaps not when you consider the current build of the team.  I do think that we'll strongly consider OT in round one, but one that's worth it has to be available. As for LB or DT, it doesn't sound like they believe that the value will necessarily be there, especially LB since we've already committed so many resources to it.

What do y'all think that we'll do? All this is subject to change before free agency ends. It's really a good time to be a Panthers fan.

That's a horrible mock. They're underselling the tackle need.

Gotta have one worth drafting, not saying that their isn't, because I don't know. I will say this: if there isn't one worth drafting, then we absolutely need to pick another position.

No way we are taking Cooper at 19. Not even sure he goes in the 1st round.

Our FA signings have given us more of an opportunity to draft BPA at 19 (if there isn't an OT we like), but we still need a FS, another LB, OT, and C and would do well with looking at TE (in the mid rounds), DT/NT, and backup QB.

And another CB (preferably nickel)

I looked at their YouTube of that and when they picked a WR in the 1st I quit watching it.

Enough with the WRs in the 1st.

We have to figure out how to get slotted for LOT.  Early.

Are you suggesting that we need to trade up (because I don't know about that)?

I don't think there is any way that we take a center in the first. First of all, it's really too high to draft a center, and, secondly, we haven't drafted a center in damned near 20 years. The FO might just not value the position like that; they have money in the tackles and the guards.

R1 I like CJ Allen LB, Monroe Freeling OT and McNeil-Warren DB

Still have prominent needs at OL, LB and DB

I don’t really buy WR or TE in the first 2 this year. Should just avoid pass catchers in R2 in general given our history lol.

LB, really? How much money and high draft picks do we need to throw at the position?

There should be. And in this mock there were two (Lomu and Freeling) that would have been better picks than a WR.

I'm just targeting the players I like for us. Impact over position.

CJ Allen is a green dot.  Devin Lloyd isn't.  Excels in coverage and on-field communication.  And the guy is a brick house.  Think he's an animal and perfect piece for the center of the defense.

So, do you think Lomu and Freeling are going to be better than Omar Cooper? Do you think they'll have a bigger impact in general, and impact for us?

In general, I don't think it's a winning formula to draft inferior players at less valuable positions, not saying that this is the case.
