DL Combine thread

My only fear is with Fairley is the same it is with Quinn. And that is he will only be really effective in the pass rush.

I'm afraid he is going to basically be a third down player. He gets his pads to high. Sometimes is lazy. Sometimes gets to far up field on plays that are running plays. But on passing downs the guy is a beast.

No doubt he will be disruptive on passing downs.

JOAT are you confident he can be an effective run stopper in the NFL??

Disclaimer: UNC alum/homer here...

Now that that's out of the way, Austin looks incredible - seems to me like he's hanging with Fairley and Dareus on every drill right now.

Can't wait to see what Quinn does, he looks great but so far his broad jump was a little disappointing (9' and change I believe).

9'8" on the broad jump.

Mayock and Sapp noted that Fairley even started his 40 in a high stance and Sapp commented that Fairley better leave his swim move home when he moves to the NFL.

My concern with Fairley is that he plays high... he actually may be better suited as a DE in a 3-4 scheme.

and I hate to say this, but the brain tumor thing gives me concerns about Quinn's longevity. He was diagnosed and had it treated in high school and went on to have a great college career, but he still has to have it checked twice a year... what if it takes a turn for the worse some day?

If he doesn't bomb the drills today, thats going to be the biggest knock on him and main thing that holds him back from being a top 3 pick.

Can he be? Yes, with work. IMO Darius is more polished and is the better all around DT. He has the size and base to anchor against the run, with the burst, leverage to effectively pressure the QB.

I am beginning to agree with you.

Just from watching this Dareus seems to be the better of the two.

Just my opinion but I like to stay on the other side of the ball.

    • I mean, in theory Bryce could get over the hump. That aside, you have to know that due to the situation we are going to give him another year. From some perspectives, it just makes sense. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with it, but it's not like the draft is chock full of franchise QBs. I'm thinking that only one, the consensus top pick, is destined to be the only one in this draft (and some people don't believe in him). All we can do is sure up the room with an FA (Pickett) and take a swing or two and hope (maybe the dawg Pavia). 2027 should bring better options if it comes to that.
    • Let's be honest here. We have one WR on this team that would be in the top 3 of ANY other team. And he was a rookie last year. I love Coker but he is an often injured UDFA. He wouldn't have even gotten a chance on other teams. The rookie injury would have bounced him around the league for the next 5 years until he stopped trying to make a roster. It's a numbers game for most teams and he would have (at best) been on some team's practice squad. But Carolina has been so devoid of talent at the position, that we didn't have much of a choice. Bryce leaves a lot of questions but to say he hasn't elevated anyone isn't true. No WR has left Carolina since he's started and did better on another team. Not one. And there are several to choose from. Coincidence? Maybe. Probably not.
