i am cool with Gabbert.,

I would say something about how Cam's body is better equipped than Vick's to handle the punishment over the course of a season.

But TRD would think I was making that my entire argument for Cam.

I agree, that extra 14 pounds will help absorb more impact.. but regardless, it'll catch up to him soon enough, even Big Ben was feeling the pain...

Would you turn on Cam?

IF he played like JC did, then hell yeah. That is not gonna happen though, because Cam is not scared of getting hit. Go watch the "game tape" you say you have access to, and you will see the difference in pocket presence very clearly.

So are you saying that I shouldn't turn on Gabbert if he ends up stinking the place up?

There goes trying to inject a bit of humour and good natured ribbing into a very 'touchy' thread.

All I was saying, you just claimed you would support him as long as he was a Panther. If he did stink the place up, and turned on him, then you would be a fibber.

For the record it's pretty easy to still support Clausen. You just need to recognise that he wasn't ready to play and didn't have any help from his coaching staff. It's not like Clausen physically did anything bad (off the field), just he didn't win games.

There was no reason to turn on Clausen to the extent that people did. If you were one of those that said, 'I am unsure of the pick but will support him as long as he is a Panther', kinda makes your support for Gabbert if he is picked, meaningless.

Ok, I now get the idea of your personality. You expect it all, right away and accept no excuses. Pretty ridiculous.

Just because someone plays poorly you think that is an acceptable reason to hate on them? This is pretty rich from someone who was arguing with people who you claimed were 'hating' on Cam because they didn't like the red flags in his past.

EDIT - Posted before I saw your last post, so maybe the interweb hid your sarcasm. Not sure though...

I don't hate Clausen at all. I just don't think he has a very high ceiling as a QB, and I don't believe the Panthers do either. I have said before that he can still be a decent QB, but he will never be a franchise QB.

What if you said it was the worst pick and he would bring our franchise more embarrassment than production?

Would you win some type of award?

I think this was aimed at me?

No award, just self gratification.

Personally I don't get upset about individuals under performing. The coaches shouldn't keep sending them out there for the wolves if they are that bad.

Still, I also refuse to write any player off after one year. Unless they are a headcase...

Some people confuse supporting Jimmy with expecting him to improve in any substantial manner.

I have no expectation he will be able to rise above his horrible first year but I still support him and hope he gets a chance to be better and I do hope he actually does do better. I just doubt he'll really improve markedly, but I see why he could.

Hell, I even defended Jake Delhomme when it wasn't popular, so you better believe that I go with my gut and not with the sheep. In fact, I still believe the Panthers would have won more than 2 freakin games if they had kept Delhomme. He sure as hell couldn't have been any worse.

No one was ever worse than Jimmy.

David Carr would have won more than one game (Jimmy only won one)

This. Clausen provided some of the most horrific QB performances I've ever seen at any level last year. I have little to no hope that he'll ever amount to anything. I hope I'm wrong and he can be our franchise QB, but I saw nothing that gives me any hope for that to happen.

We would've won more games simply having Stewart and Williams split snaps out of the wildcat as our only offense.

    • I don't think they changed as much as you think between the INT and the final sack (immediate pressure with 4 linemen). They definitely stopped blitzing as much, if a blitz means rushing more than the front 4/5. They definitely did some exotic packages where they sent LBs/DBs and dropped linemen into coverage though. The fumble and INT were both blitzes. And yes they were successful. And yes, I agreed with Bryce not taking care of the ball. Really not many answers on those plays - just take the sack and live another play (unless you're Lamar). Which he didn't do. And no, you can't run prevent on the goal line. What's prevent defense to you? Alignment, personnel, cushion, etc.? Just curious. My reply was to the post that they sat back in some soft zone the whole game - until the end, when it mattered. That's not true. They blitzed, they disguised coverages and blitzers, they pressed, they bailed, they covered the flats, all of that. Not trying to argue. Just trying to inform. Actually they only blitzed once on the final drive, and the DB got away with a bad hold on Tremayne. Otherwise looked like it would have been a completion for a first down. The Cardinals' final drive defense looked a lot like the rest of the game.  I know it's easy to get upset after a lose (I'm guilty), but Mondays are when cooler heads prevail. Right? Emotions can make us seem like we don't know what we're talking about. The Huddle isn't supposed to be that. I always saw it as a place to go discuss the Carolina Panthers with more than the casual fan, and their emotionally charged opinions. I can get that at the local grocery store, where they don't know anything about NC/SC, let alone the Panthers.
    • Poor guy went from the Ravens to this disaster
    • You have to make the best of it and find moments of happiness.  So, I picked up the Falcons D in my money league for this week.
