Every player negotiates their own deal with the owner...it would mean a lot more cost to the owners....no caps...no restrictions...market bears all!

And legally owners can not sign anyone. Now they will scream collusion but good luck proving it.

What it really means is this front of 32 owners united goes to poo real quick. You will see Jacksonville, Buffalo etc fold as they can't pay what other teams do. Next you will see a 4-5 teams always getting in and winning the Superbowl as those teams will always outbid others for free agents.

Get ready for it to be Dallas vs. NE every year for the Superbowl.

Haves and have nots.....NY...Dallas...New England...and other big markets with lots of money win....everyone else loses.

it'll turn out to be a nightmare...for the players.

ultimately, the market is set by the owners.

And the kicker is the draft. No rookie salary cap so we will be giving up 55 mill in guaranteed to a rookie. now something I want to know, before the CBA Teams owned a players rights for 3 seasons if they chose not to join the team after the draft (see players who went to the USFL). Does that come back?

doesn't it also mean all of these tags go away immediately as well? fug, Payton Manning will be a free agent! Get it done JR lol! :-)

That's if there's an uncapped year, not if they decertify the union.

No. It means that salaries will get out of control and players who don't warrant big dollars will get paid.

On a positive note, veteran minimums will be gone, so vets won't be forced into retirement. They will have the option to play for less and that means teams will retain players longer...I really like this option.

The Veteran minimum was put into place to keep vets from getting screwed. If they are at the point they need to be paid less than 800k they need to retire.

That said, this is going to destroy the league as we know it and really they are going to destroy the game as a whole.

There will be 4-6 teams that can afford to pay top dollar, this means they will always have the best talent and will always dominate. Fans of other teams will say 'fug it' since their team cant compete. Also I am telling you Buffalo and Jacksonville won't be able to sustain at all. I don't see the panthers as one that will compete.

Also draft salaries are gonna get WAY out of hand, even worse than we see right now. For the league as a whole and the fans as a whole, this will be a disaster.

There are vets that retire because nobody wants to pay the $. There are players every year that want to play, but can't find teams, due to the vet min. I would have liked to see S. Alexander, E. James, Harrison, I could go on for a while...not be forced into retirement because no one wanted to pay vet min...they all could have still helped a team.

The rest of your post, you backed up what I was saying about no union....the players win.

By the way, you know vet mins are for the players right? Wow....you really jump around on issues.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
