Panthers not sold on drafting D-lineman

According to this new evidence along with what we already know, it's looking like the pick is gonna be Newton.

Nah, PP will be the pick when it all comes down to it. Hurney will go BPA and screw the CB never been drafted with the #1 pick.

1)Of the two WR taken #1 overall, both are pro bowlers.

Statistically, your safest bet, based on the prospects in this class is A.J. Green

2)the two OL taken first overall have both been to the pro bowl.

No OT in this class is worth the #1 overall pick...too bad

3)Since '83 when Elway was picked #1 overall, there have been 15 QBs taken #1...8 of them have been pro bowlers or are in the hall of fame. 2 of which still have a chance to join that group, bradford and stafford.

Newton or Gabbert at #1 lands you a better than 50/50 probability of snagging a pro bowl signal caller

4)In that span, 6 Defensive linemen have been taken #1 over all, half of which are pro bowlers or HOFers.

You've got a 50% chance of striking it rich with Fairley/Dareus/Bowers/Quinn at #1 ovr

5)Half of the 2 RB taken were pro bowlers.

Ingram is tooooo much of a reach for 50% odds

6)the one linebacker didnt reach the pro bowl

Sorry Von, enjoy your time in cold buffalo or hot arizona

I wish there were just a few discussions in the media about the Panthers selecting AJ Green. It all seems to hinge on being talked about when uttering Steve Smith's future. Even with Smitty, I think Green is a great choice. But if Patrick Peterson is going to be the kind of player everyone thinks he will be, he'd be a great addition. A quarterback just doesn't make sense this year. Give Clausen another chance, bring in Orton, do something.

ADD: I'm fine with just about anyone at this point, sans Newton. That's nothing against his fans on this board, I just didn't think his combine was fantastic and I'd rather take USC's QB or Luck next year if we land at the right spot. Even with a rookie QB, we won't turn around and be fantastic this year I don't think. New system, labor agreement, etc. Horrible for a new coaching staff to come in and do anything. So why not take BPA, then next year nab the BETTER QB who can actually come in right away and make a difference?

these "stats" are way too overrated...especially that one about the QBs. it is true that you have only a small chance to get a franchise-qb outside the 1st round but thats all...

It is actually outside the top 20 picks. The last 10 years only Rodgers has been taken after 20 in the first round and panned out.

People focus on the QB busts but the scouts pretty much know what they are doing.

There is a reason that most starting QBs come in the first round.

But Tom Brady tells us you never know :)

better than pron, hookers, coke (Charlie Sheen), Cam Newton, boo's feet, and bewbies combined?? no way!!

Okay...Sounds good..So let me ask you a hypothetical question, If u were Ron Rivera taking over as head coach of the panthers and you have no franchise QB. In a mainly defense heavy draft and 2 QB's that can be really good or can be really bad. What would you Do with that first overall pick?

brady, romo and brees, iirc...but these guys are assumptions to the rule and that's what the people have to realize.

Exceptions, but even then Brady and Brees are two of the top 5 QBs in the league. How many other really good QBs are there? Who would we say are the top 5 QBs? Manning, Brady, Brees, Rivers, and Rodgers? Rivers and Manning were top 3 guys, but the other three weren't.

3 of the 5 most elite QBs did not come at the top of the 1st round. It's not as clear-cut as one would think. Romo's great too when healthy and his o-line isn't getting him killed, and he wasn't even drafted.

SB or bust?

Bulger, Brady, Brees, Garrard, Romo have all brought their teams to the playoffs... Shaub and Cassel were late round picks that are starting in the NFL right now.
