Contract numbers for Shockey

THe point is VY said he is elite and he laughs at those types of things (incentive based contracts, competing for the starting job, etc) because for lack of a better word he is already great and an icon.

Even though every GM in football said they don't want him, he still laughed at being a backup. No way he would sign that deal was my point. He's still a headcase and thinks he's a better football player than BCG is a poster. Both pretty outrageous, both headcases.

How in the hell can a thread about Shockey's contract turn into a pissing match about whether a numb skull like VY should be a Panther.

Jeez guys haven't you talked about this enough? This same crap is on almost every page of this forum.

You don't need to hijack a thread just to rehash this garbage. Do you?

agreed. the dolphins must not have offered him a contract.

They didn't. - http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nfl/981/jeremy-shockey

It's not THAT great of a deal (Panther wise). He was scheduled to make $4.2 mil base with the Saints, so he was cut. - http://www.neworleansprofootball.com/2011/02/te-shockey-4-million-salary-cut.html

PFT/Rotoworld says "Jeremy Shockey's one-year contract with the Panthers has a maximum value of $3,812,500.It comes in the form of a $3 million salary and $812,500 roster bonus for making the Week 1 roster. $1 million of Shockey's salary is guaranteed, meaning the Panthers could cut him before the season and "only" have blown $1 million. We're betting he'll make the team, meaning Shockey would receive all the money. It still doesn't seem like an especially good investment for Carolina." - http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/981/jeremy-shockey

We have cap room and it's a one year deal, so I could really care less that we may have paid over market value for a tight end that represents a substantial upgrade. I'm more excited by the fact that we at least consider the position a priority under Rivera's watch. No more committee of third string guys.

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
