Justin Tuck on Cam Newton

The Carolina Panthers are considering using the No. 1 overall pick in the April draft on the quarterback. Newton is under the microscope. But there’s one player in the league who absolutely wouldn’t take Newton to start the draft.

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post tracked down what New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck had to say at MIT last week where he appeared for the Sloan Spots Analytics Conference. Let’s just say Tuck doesn’t have Newton atop his own personal draft board.

“Would I take him at No. 1? Absolutely not," Tuck said. “In this league, the athletic quarterbacks don't last long.

"It's the quarterbacks (like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees) that can sit in the pocket and take a picture of whatever defense we're in and know in 0.3 seconds that a hot slant is going to be open. … It's those guys that (teams) are looking for, and I don't think Cam is that player yet. If he comes into the league doing what he did in college, he won't be in this league for very long."

Good golly what a hater!

    • I'm salty every time I see someones mid picks become stars while we throw first and second rounders over and over and they all stink outside of Tet (who still has a lot to prove, imo)
    • There is a contingent that is total Bryce but they weathervane with the wind. When the good Bryce wind blows about once or twice a month we hear a lot from them. But they are always pro Bryce, they just don’t pipe up too much when he sucks. I can’t speak for them, as far as what they are looking at.    In a second contingent, the collective mind is made up. He has had had basically three years worth of starts that might include a top tier outing or two, a few second tier outings, offset by about the same number of bottom tier outings which actually may have the edge there.  The rest of his stuff is third tier and that is going to be the bulk of his starts. We want to move on. And we aren’t getting off of that hill until he puts us off of it. He has not.    There is a third contingent that has no conviction and definitely weather vanes. Bryce is good. Bryce isn’t good. Depending on the latest game. They will buy into 7 on 7 success so that should tell you something.
    • Nacua is really fuging good. He might be a better version of Cooper Kupp.
