Say we draft Peterson #1 overall...

Recommended Posts

I understand some of you would be disappointed, but I sense the vast majority on the huddle would be extremely supportive of Hurney and Rivera's choice regardless of personal preference. That's the beauty of fandom.

Here's my question:

Hypothetically speaking, lets assume one of our two starting CBs from last season are not with the Panthers next season. Peterson establishes himself as the #2 CB behind Gamble/Marshall going into week 1 and shows improvement but struggles in coverage while showing great athleticism and ball skills.

Meanwhile, Godfrey is getting off to a slow start, and becomes a liability in pass coverage. I've heard many people saying how PP is built for a safety position and it may better suit his strengths as a football player. What do you think the chances would be of switching up Peterson's position and having him out back with Martin? Hopeful that Captain could step up or maybe Godfrey could even return to his college position.

Not advocating this in any way, I just see it as a possibility. We would want to play our #1 overall pick where he can be the most effective, and if the coaching staff feels this the right move, we would have no choice but to support it. Hopefully Peterson would excel at the CB position and no tampering like this would be necessary.

The fact that there is a player in this draft with the tools to eventually be a Revis/Reed/S. Taylor/Hester (return game) is mighty tempting.

Yeah I agree. I actually think with Rivera's background, having someone like Peterson and getting a second tier talent for the D-Line could lead possibly to a more productive defense long term.

Initially the idea of taking a CB really kinda made me flinch but I don't feel that way anymore. Wouldn't mind Peterson or Dareus.

I would 100% endorse and support the pick, no questions asked.

As for moving him to safety, that remains to be seen. I'd have to be real convinced once the season started that he and Godfrey could compliment each others weakness, and the switch would be beneficial for the defense. Not saying it couldn't happen, or that it should happen, but I think all avenues of opportunity to improve the defense would be on the table. I wouldn't think he doesn't have what it takes to be successful at the safety position, but CB is what I see as of now.
