I would only want Cam or Gabbert if the staff TRULY BELIEVED they were franchise QB's that a team could be built around.

I don't want them for merely the sake of taking arguably the best QB in a poor QB class.

If we draft them, then they are my QB. I will support them and cheer for them every Sunday.

I trust Rivera and his staff to make the right choice. Will they? Only time will tell.

This is exactly why if they pick him it'd make it the most exciting pick. However, if they choose not to it will not make me upset, cuz they are doing so much homework on this.

We need talent. I don't care how old it is.

Even after seeing last season?

The best teams tend to have a mix of youth and vets. Veterans often help young players in ways even the coaches sometimes can't, especially within games.

Experience and leadership do matter. We had neither last year, and it showed.

There's a difference between talent and ability. Every player in the draft has talent, some just don't have the ability to play in the NFL.

I do agree we need to sign a few vets to even out the roster, but we won't find our QB on the scrap heap this time. If we ever plan on being a competitive team long-term we're going to have to address QB with a very early draft pick.

I suppose I'm just not sold on the idea that next year's QB class is so much better. No doubt this one has a lot of questions surrounding it, but outside of Luck, is next year's really that much better? Hell, this time last year people had Jake Locker as the slam-dunk 1st overall pick and NOBODY had either Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert even in the discussion as 1st rounders.

There are a lot of names being tossed around for next year, but none of them are sure bets. Even Luck has a chance to regress and end up like Locker next year with all kinds of questions about his skills. Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, John Brantley, Terrelle Pryor, Kirk Cousins... they all have a chance to be rated very highly, but odds are maybe two of them will be considered top-10 talents and maybe one other a borderline 1st rounder.

I look at those names and realize that:

1. I don't think any of them have the raw talent and potential of Cam Newton...

2. There's no guarantee that half of them will even enter the draft...

3. Odds are to nab on of the top-2 QB's we'll have to trade up and spend a ton of picks or a future 1st rounder to do so...

So, I'd just assume take our chances right here and now when we know what's available and know that we have our pick of them.

Back to the original topic, the FO is willing to fly in to see Green rather than have him visit, but they're not willing to fly in on Gabbert's pro day? Given all the attention Newton's getting, I gotta think that Gabbert's more of an after thought. 'Due dilligence' as they say.

    • I mean maybe the way the roster looked coming in to 2003 - 2003 had a lot of players emerge in such big ways but didn't look spectacular at the start, lol Nobody thought that receiving corps was going to be particularly great, but a lot of us thought our great coaching hires (lol) would carry us through to challenging for the division...
    • Great write up OP This is the EXACT reason why DM drafted TMac, with his possible plug and play ability at the X role this year frees so much up for our offense. No other player on the board this year at 8 was going to do that Offense or Defense in my opinion.       3 TE 1 WR sets even got better adding Evans, which down in the redzone or short yardage situations just adds another dimension needed in the NFL to compete week to week.  Saying I am excited about this group is an understatement.  When you watch a guy like Coker last year making PLAYS as an UDFA I think this team finally is developing that hard nose, fight for each yard mentality that this team used to be about sans Tepper. DM played and help develop that attitude as an organization and hopefully it comes back fully this year.  I am not a BY believer, but I am hoping that he is going to make me eat a big ole plate of crow this year because I think DM has done a good enough job to fill these rooms out with talent.
