Its going to be difficult for Jimmy....

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not but Jimmy will be learning a new offense this season and "rumors" were that he had trouble with the playbook last year.

The lack of a CBA compounds the problem bc he can't meet with coaches or study the playbook (I'm not sure if this is legal right now or not). For a guy who struggled last year it will be really difficult for him to improve much.

I think if the CBA goes on for very long they will have to eventually bring someone in who has a background with this offense. That might be Billy Voleck...or a sleeper could be Alex Smith who has played for Norv Turner and actually had pretty good success.

I guess the point is that Jimmy still might not improve this year and may need ANOTHER year under in this offense to really show any kind of potential. Giving Jimmy time is warranted but bc of the CBA he may need more than we all think.

Rumor is the Panthers have given Newton, Gabbert, and Mallett all abbreviated versions of our playbook for them to study prior to their private visits with the Panthers. If they can give these to prospects, i would assume they could have gotten the full one to the other QB's on the roster prior to the lockout/decertification occurring.

If not just mail it... evidentally Goodell can mail letters out to players whenever he wants. I would assume someone could mail a playbook.

I like how ya only mentioning clausen. All the other qbs currently on the roster have the same amount of time to learn a new offense.

Any vet brought in will have even less to work with.

a vet brought in will have basics down Clausen still is struggling with. Clausen has more to do than just learn a playbook....he has to learn to be a functional NFL QB that is ready to learn on the field.

They can't send them playbooks, because the players would use that as proof that the owners aren't really executing a lockout in court. If they can prove that teams aren't really locking them out then the court would end the lockout by the teams.

    • Lil Stanky 100% in the dot tonight... And our 2nd line has been our best offensive line this season. Maybe our 2C really was on the roster this whole time...?
    • That’s a grade I kind of expected tbh. I’m not a huge fan of NS, but he’s not as bad as what the huddle says he is minus the horrible game he had vs the Rams. I’ve always thought he’s often used as a scapegoat. The improved pass rush should hide his deficiencies a little bit better if he’s the game one starter. FS might have to be a position we punt on this year unless Thieneman falls to us at 19. The reality is, you're going to have a few average players in certain spots for a team with as many holes we had before free agency started. You can’t sign everyone.
    • I am by no means trying to say he's a world beater. I'm saying it's trending in the right direction. Especially when measured against himself.i think the team feel the same way or else they wouldn't have picked up his option. Plus I think there is a new idea in the NFL about these young QBs. Teams give up to soon. Browns gave up to soon on baker same with the jets on Geno and darnold. Maybe they are who you thought they were in the draft process and they need more time to develop than you originally planned. Either way. I do think he is as capable as darnold is as far as you can win a championship with him. And something he does have that darnold doesn't is he is clutch.  If I need one more drive and 2 mins to go I'm betting on Bryce and I am far from a homer, just going off his game winning drives. He has that dog in him on the last drive.
