Best Phone on the market?

Awesomeness!!

Recommended Posts

The iPhone 5 will be out this summer, so it'd be pretty dumb to upgrade to the 4 right now. And unless it allows flash and has widgets, I wouldn't expect it to be a better phone than the best Androids on the market come this summer either.

This, I don't think I could ever consider an iphone unless they added flash and the ability for widgets, which apple never will. I don't care how nice the screen is, I want the ability to customize the look of my phone, and to make it suit my needs as quickly as possible....

I have an old iPod, an iPad and a MacBook and I really love all of them for the most part, so I'm not some Apple basher. But having dealt with the iPad for the past few months makes me not want to have an iPhone until it allows flash. It's such a pain in the ass to be surfing forums and have someone post a link and then not be able to watch it or view the site because of Adobe restrictions. I end up having to use my MacBook to look at stuff just to see what everyone else is seeing, which kind of defeats the purpose of having the iPad.

You're right about the display; it's fantastic. But I like having interactive widgets more, because opening different apps all the time to do things like check sports scores or read tweets is annoying. Droid lets you interface right from the homescreen. Worth the trade-off to me that the picture isn't as perfect.

Well, on a serious note, what is the best phone on the market (more specifically Verizon)? I have a credit to upgrade my BlackBerry Tour.

I know the obvious answer is iPhone 4 for Verizon. But is there a better option? And the iPhone four has been out for a couple months, automatically making it obsolete. Since I'm looking to upgrade this summer, is there one I should be holding out for?

I am in the same situation as you, and I am also holding out until this summer. I've had the ability to upgrade to the iphone 4 but decided to be patient and wait.

The iPhone will be a year old in June, so I wouldn't go that route (plus Apple will release a new one that is 4G compatible). I just go the Thunderbolt (had iPhone 3G before) and I like it quit a bit...however battery life could be better. I have read good things about Bionic as it has more processing power than the Thunderbolt (but probably not so much you'll notice). Oh, and ditch the Blackberry (no matter what their latest model is), those things were obsolete years ago.

From what I've read I do not beleive the iphone 5 will be 4g this summer. I don't think we will see 4g on the iphone until Summer of 2012.

I think it comes down to personal preference. I have an android phone now, but I will be switching over to the new iphone this summer.

In terms of power, customizability, capability and most things I believe there are android phones out there that are the best on the market.

However I believe the iphone is most in line with what consumers like myself want in a phone.... Excellent app market, i tunes, simplicity, and convenience are all reason I will opt for the iphone vs the top android phone. I just depend on what you like and what you want.

HTC Thunderbolt of the iPhone 4. But if you're willing to wait, go for the Droid Bionic.

As for on the market period right now? Most homers would say iPhone 4. I'd say its probably the Atrix 4G on AT&T or the Thunderbolt. I personally have the Thunderbolt right now.

i don't know if the software is available yet, or if you should do it on a work phone, but rooting your droid and getting a ROM for saving battery helps a ton.

I'm using setCPU along with Liberty 1.5 ROM, and can now make it through an entire work day of listening to pandora without having to charge it. I still had 30% at the end of 8 hours yesterday.

What kills the Thunderbolt is the 4G radios. If you're connected to 4G, it KILLS the battery.

I use it pretty heavily on 3G all day and it makes it through until I get home in the evening.

There are a lot of really good phones coming in the next six months... Thunderbolt, Bionic, Droid 3, Droid X2, iPhone5... I would definitely wait for a 4G phone instead of getting what's currently available (unless you want the Thunderbolt).

Like I said it's all about preference because what some considers a good phone for them, may not be a good phone for you. Also do not get caught up in the 4g Hype.... Though phones coming out are 4g, they are not running at true 4g speeds. I've found this out after a lot of research. All the carries are just starting to roll out this coverage. 3G is more than capable, and will not be obsoloete anytime soon. But 3g vs 4g is up too you to decide the importance for where we stand right now... Here is a quick piece from an article

3g and 4g Article

3G: Today's standard

3G represents a period in the timeline of mobile phone technology. Most mobile phones today run on some type of 3G network (depending on carrier) for their voice and data access. This access makes possible advanced phone functionality such as smartphone features of email, media streaming and downloading, and web browsing.

Theoretically, 3G speeds can reach up to 3 Megabits per second (Mbps), with average speeds tending to be closer to 1Mbps or lower. This means 1 million bits, or 125,000 bytes, of data are being transferred per second in equivalent speeds to most standard home DSL internet connections. At this download speed, it takes roughly 1 to 2 minutes to download a 4-minute MP3 file. 3G coverage spans most of the continental United States, with heavier coverage around major metropolitan areas.

4G: The speed of what's just ahead

Most technologies branded as 4G aren't quite 4G systems, but a late form of the 3G technology more commonly called "Pre-4G." 4G development focuses around achieving ultra-broadband speeds, competing with and in some cases outstripping the speeds provided by your home internet connection.

These goals make 4G ideal for the mobile consumer who is seeking to replace a wifi network with speed-equivalent or faster mobile technology through smartphone tethering or mobile broadband devices. 4G average speeds are targeted to be in the 100Mbps to 1Gbps range, roughly 10 to 100 times (dependent on location) faster than 3G networks. At that rate, that 4-minute MP3 download would take you mere seconds.

The current iterations that attempt to reach 4G standards are referred to as Pre-4G because they do not yet reach these data rates. Even Sprint, the company with the apparent leg up in the 4G race, doesn't yet offer true 4G on its 4G devices. Sprint's service technically falls into the pre-4G category, along with Verizon's newly launched 4G network.

There is only one U.S. carrier that is offering true 4G service: Sprint. Sprint currently has two mobile phones, the HTC Evo and the Samsung Epic, which have been benchmarked to achieve speeds 10 times faster than 3G; coverage is still limited to major metropolitan cities. Outside of these areas, data speeds revert to 3G.

Why hold off?

Pre-4G has nowhere near the coverage and availability of 3G phones currently, but you should still check your carrier's coverage maps when considering a new smartphone. With the state of networks today, even a 4G-capable phone like Sprint's Epic 4G will default to a 3G network if it can't find a 4G signal. And 4G-capable phones in 3G areas can sneak in hidden costs for services you might not even be using. On Sprint's network, the Epic 4G and Evo 4G smartphones come packaged with a $10 premium fee that you'll pay monthly, whether you ever get anywhere near a 4G network or not. That makes your local 4G availability the biggest concern when considering a 4G phone.

On the other hand, a 4G phone can run on a 3G network just fine, and it'll be ready for the 4G revolution when the time comes. But depending on availability, your mobile plan may have already refreshed and you could be due for your next shiny piece of mobile technology.

For now, consider sticking with your 3G phone, and keep your eyes and ears open for when widely available 4G networks spring up.

Like I said just think about what you want in a phone, then decide the right one for you. If it's power and speed, customizability than it will be a droid phone. Look at what market you are in... If you are in a major city than more than likely you will be one of the first places to have Pre-4g, 4g coverage.... If you’re not paying for a 4g phone right now is pointless as you will be on 3g for awhile anyway.

If you like itunes, the istore, the apple apps and convenience then go with the iphone 5 this summer.

Just my honest .02 cents.
