Judge Nelson to rule in couple weeks

Recommended Posts

I don't know that either side ever really engaged in meaningful negotiations without separate ulterior motives.

True. However, it does seem that the owners came to the table with a pretty solid proposal....only to have the players give them the big finger and walk out.

The players had EVERY intention of filing a lawsuit. Everything they did in the name of negotiating up until this point was bullshit posturing.

I read somewhere that the judge might use a tactic in which she creates a lot of doubt for both sides making them think they might lose, in an effort to push them back to resolving issues in mediation rather than in federal court.

Which would make sense.

Whether or not it would actually work is another question.

Here is what she said without saying it. Get your asses back to the table you really don't want me ruling on this. Two weeks? I bet she knows right now what she is going to rule on and is trying to give both moronic sides one last chance to get back to the table.

I have a strong feeling since she represented plaintiffs like the players in the past against big organizations, this is to give the players one last shot before she rules for the owners.

To me the owners offered up one hell of a new deal, made concessions and at least tried to bargain in good faith. There was NOTHING that kept the NFLPA from doing another 1 week extension except the fact they wanted to sue.

according to what i was watching on nfl network it doesn't require recertifying as it would be in a federal court setting away from all the jargon and was meant just to get this settled now rather then later..the judge was adamant about that.

True.

But it was more than just posturing. They had a legal obligation to attempt to negotiate. Federal labor laws are specific about both sides negotiating in good faith. Had they just given the finger to the NFL when negotiations began, they would be in violation of those laws, and their asses would be in the legal fire.

The NFL Owner's contention (and happens to be most people's opinion on the huddle)... is that the NFLPA* did not negotiate in good faith anyhow, and made unreasonable demands.

I do hope the players get a smack down here. I honestly don't know one NFL fan personally who isn't sick to death of these high paid, sometimes criminal, dickwads acting like divas.

That's interesting.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
