Kiper: Panthers Should Trade Down

Let me give you guys some insight from the brow of the super brain here.

The media hates the Carolina Panthers. They believe they can mislead the organization by planting bad information. Ideally they want the Panthers to pick a bust player like Cam Newton or they want the Panthers to give the pick up to a more favored team.

I'm tired of hearing and reading these analyst thinking they know what's best for our DAMN team. When most of them have never even followed the Panthers.

Who the f*ck is actually worth trading up for?

Answer: No one. And no team will be dumb enough to trade up.

Agreed as to you first point. I ignore draft analysts (especially high profile guys) when it comes the Panthers because even with the #1 overall, we're an unanalyzed afterthought.

To your second, Cam probably is an attractive enough prospect for someone to trade up.

all i know is if hurney does want to trade back he better not trade far enough back that we can't get one of the more elite prospects (newton, dareus, peterson, green) just for a 2nd and maybe another throw in pick...he better rape that team...i just don't see another team wanting to trade up to number one in less they are absolutely in love with newton or gabbert and are willing to take a questionable QB which both are while also giving up multiple picks

    • I think the player matters a lot(in regards to price specifically). Parsons will likely end up being worth the price because he is unquestionably elite. Burns obviously hasn't been until this year because he isn't a consistently elite pass rusher. He is too easy to shut down with just a single blocker.  Guys like Parsons and Garrett that you have to plan your entire blocking scheme around make everyone on the defense better. Truth be told, that isn't Burns on his current line, it's Dexter Lawrence. But, as you pointed out, situations still matter. Joe Burrow may be a truly elite QB but that doesn't matter a lot when he can't stay healthy or the overall team isn't good. Ask Matt Stafford about that in Detroit.   The Panthers aren't in a position to be liquidating the extremely valuable draft picks we have. Our roster is still a bottom 5 overall NFL roster.
    • I don't hate KK. The Canes overpaid and he's enjoying the benefits.  Anyone who assumed he was going to turn into an excellent player based on what the Canes paid him weren't paying attention. Sure, I wish he was much more physical, he's a big guy, and that's really all I was hoping for when he came to Carolina. Danault is better in the FO circle, better defensively and better down the middle, but it's a moot point now.
