Seriously, split back into the NFL/AFL

So destroying the NFL is preferable to not making the players take a paycut.

As logical as a hungry pregnant woman in a heat wave.

If the players win then they will destroy the league. I can see the owners shutting down completely and opening under a different business model if they win. How can they do that and not have to deal with anti trust/ collusion issues? Two leagues. There would be no monopoly, the players have two leagues in which they can pimp their services.

A new business model is definentaly coming but I'm not sure a two league system is the way to go. Mainly because in the end I think that collective bargaining is the best way for sustained and long term labor peace. How the owner get there is a big question and it might involve having to change in the short term in order to be within anti-trust law but still allows for easy transition back to an agreement through collective bargaining.

The two league system would be more of a long term solution and would probably be in constant battle by the player unions declaring it a "sham" in courts.

It's a good idea, I'm just not sure thats what the owners want. They are fine with a CBA. They just want the ability to show and gain more profitability and that means no more percentages when it comes to determining the player's cut.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
