Butts in the seats factor...

This isn't lost on the business minded owner...

Is there enough excitement to get and keep butts in the seats? I am excited about getting RR. Think a lot of fans are, but what happens if we go with MM and JC and we lose 2-3 games. Are the butts going to be in the seats? People will feel like that same crap (at the same position) we have had over the past few years and save the money watch games at home.

We don't take a QB (or get a FA), we better win. Like Cam or not, he creates excitement. Fans will be waiting to see if MM or JC gets pulled for Cam (a.k.a Peete/Delhomme when down 17 points to make a come back win). That was excitement and people will want to see it. Course he would have to pull off the win or make it a heck of a game, lol.

This isn't a Newton thread (as I said I'm AJ guy). Its QB thread and something that should be considered (because it probably is by ownership).

Winning fixes everything, what about losing under JC and MM???

Well he can take Cam for a quick fix then catch the fans wrath when cam never succeeds, OR build up the team to start winning, get a veteran QB in here to expidite the process and take a guy to groom next year.

There already is a butt in the seat factor with the team. New coaching staff. It's a breath of fresh air after years of Foxball. Usually fans are ready to experience a growing pain season when a new coach comes in after a terrible year before. As long as the team shows life no matter who the pick or FA are, the fans will be interested. Last year, the team look so bland and played with no heart. Seeing some intensity and desire to win would suffice with a new coach for one year.

What happens if we draft Cam and lose 2-3 games?

Think I addressed that already, with the Peete/Delhomme scenario that happened. He won't start, but has a good chance to see action this season. Thing is, if there is no QB that can step...well we are stuck AGAIN.

Lets not think that we are "sell outs", we have PSLs and business have stepped up to plate and bought the remaining tickets more than once. This is fans taking for granted those 2 factors.

With the rebuilding view, if he is a bust...how many Super Bowls do we have?? Not to mention we win less games each time we have made the playoffs for the past few years, which is what..3 in 10 years. We can not get by GOOD teams.

Having a potential star at the most important position in the game is exciting, for most fans. Of course he has to perform when he gets the chance. But frankly, it's not like we are Super Bowl contenders (in any year).

We have interviewed the guy like 4 times already, apparently SOMEONE has some confidence the guy is legit. Or, it's close, to trading down or another pick. So, not sure "hype" plays in this...

Again an AJ guy, but what free agent can we get? The sky is not falling, if we take him. Until we have a Super Bowl or back to back winning seasons, we better grab some balls and take chance. We will win enough, to be out of the Luck lottery, next year. I just think we need to quit delaying the inedible. The longer we wait, the longer it takes...

    • Not exactly sure that is an honest assesment of the talent he had to work with that year. Olsen had over 1100 yards that season making the PB, Stewart had close to 1100 total yards also going to the PB. He had Kalil at C who went to the PB, Trai Turner at RG who also went to the PB, and Michael Oher at LT who played well enough that the Panthers offered him a new contract the following year. I wouldn't call that a trash OL. He also played with a defense that was stacked with talent as well.   "The thing we are doing better this time around is actually surrounding our #1 overall draft pick QB with talent vs. asking him to completely carry the offense. I just hope that effort is leading us to realize that the guy isn't even good enough to get carried." Please.... Did you not read the list of names Newton had to work with his rookie season. I guess you missed it so I will post it again for you... Steve Smith (PB), Greg Olsen (PB), Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn JR, Deangelo Williams (PB), Jonathan Stewart (PB), Jordan Grossn (PB), Ryan Kalil (PB) on the offensive side and then he had Luke Kuechly (PB), Jon Beason (PB), Thomas Davis (PB), Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short ( PB ),Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy (PB ), Mike Mitchell, Josh Norman (PB)  For comparison, here is who Young had his first year.  Chuba Hubbard, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst, Ikem Ekwonu, Chandler Zavala, Bradley Bozeman, Nash Jensen and Taylor Morton. Not a single PB player on the list and most of them aren't even playing any longer. Additionally, his HC was fired during the season and the defense was as bad as the offense.  You might not like the comparison but saying Newton had to completely carry the offense isn't exactly fair to the 4 pro bowlers on offense who played with him that year.
    • That's why I say we have to keep looking. Even if you believe Bryce is the guy, KP and Grier are not and who knows if King is anything more than a gimmick player, we should be active in improving our 2nd QB spot. Season ending injuries happen, and you don't just want to roll over and give it up. How many starters have we seen come from the ranks of backup? Having 2 potential starting QBs is one of the best problems we could have.
    • Eh, it’s more on how bad the refs are. Some of these calls against the canes are no calls
