Panthers to draft Cam Newton

My parents are good friends with someone in particular who works within the Panthers organization, and I was told as of today from this source that he can guarantee we will be selecting Newton in the draft. Anyways...figured this news was worth sharing

My Dad goes to church with a guy that knows the dude that used to mow Jerry Richardson's lawn. But that's irrelevant. I have a friend that works a concession stand in BofA stadium who has grown pretty close with a security guard who is the cousin of Marty Hurney's daughter-in-law. But that's irrelevant.

I went to an astrologist the other day and she said that the Panthers will indeed draft Cam Newton, so I agree with your first person fact-based prediction.

No reason to believe or disbelieve this statement so I'll just choose to believe it bc that's what I've been saying all along. If we stay at 1 it has to be newton...if we trade down (which I'm sure is still on the table) then I could see us forego a QB altogether.

What?

I can give you a name and position if you would like (however im not sure if this person would want me doing so), but i assure you this information is legit.

Gah. What a waste of a #1 overall pick.

Can't believe they're doing this.

Anybody they choose is a waste bc no one is considered good enough at the right position to warrant the pick. So you go biggest need vs biggest upside and biggest impact...and no one can deny that fits Newton perfectly.

    • Ravens mixing it up with a random Mark Andrew tush push last year isn't a similar situation.  Lamar has run QB sneaks his entire career.  And often instead of a traditional sneak will even employ a 4th and 1 direct snap to Lamar simply because of how athletic he is (which even Cam did a lot of) and let him pick his own holes.
    • height being an issue doesn't just mean batted balls.  You could argue Bryce minimizes batted balls by adopting other poor habits such as his jump passing and leaving the pocket.   As I said, there are plays you can point to where he clearly was blind to parts of the field/players....which kills plays and opportunity. Which actually means some of the shorter/hot throws when things break down are where his vision gets blocked (and he had below average production all around the line of scrimmage).   has he figured it out? I mean, he improved off a trainwreck start.  But Bryce Young since arriving in the league (even while figuring it out)......doesn't generate much offensive production vs his peers.  I just think his ceiling is low.   And that's not in the grand scheme what you want in the NFL.  I think he can develop into a serviceable QB, that will largely always been a middle of the pack or low end starter.
    • People make a lot of noise about his footwork and I think it is overblown. Whether he takes 3 steps backwards or 5 small steps doesn't matter as long as he ends up at the right depth and is in sync with  the receiver regarding timing. If he does that consistently who cares as long as he has a firm stable base as he delivers the ball. Which he does need to work on. However even that is somewhat overblown given that often QBs have to throw off balance or from different arm angles to fit the ball around defenders. He is considered very accurate so apparently it isn't hurting him that much.
