Nice one. But not really looking to be "comforted." I do prefer darker themed shows. My favorites are Dexter, Breaking Bad, and Walking Dead.

But I get more entertainment from shows that do not merely build the few characters with redeeming qualities up only to kill them horribly.

I like to have characters I can root for. Now I would be rooting for Dany, but at this point it is hard not to expect her to face a tragic ending too. Meh. What is the point? Simply to show the worst possible outcome over and over again?

There are good things about the show - but certainly disappointed.

There are a lot of people like you. My wife hasn't watched this episode yet and I am thinking about just telling her what happened so she will keep watching with me. After all she quit Dexter after his wife was killed by the trinity killer.

BUT what makes these events so great along with Ned's beheading is that it instills real suspense because it reinforces the notion that no one is safe and all decisions have consequences.

Robb Stark was an oath breaker. In times of war that has consequences even if you do it for admirable purposes like love.

Robb was an oathbreaker who threw away his chance at victory because he was horny. And Cat was the one who started the war in the first place. These are not the great and noble characters you've imagined them to be.

...but ....but ...but NED

dale, andrea, tdog, lori...he's really gonna hate it when he meets lucille on Walking Dead

i wish people would stop pouting and start appreciating the strength of the storytelling that lead them to have such a profound emotional response over the deaths of people that don't even exist

For what it's worth, I've read the WD Comics and know what you speak of.

Maybe I just never forgave/got over Ned's death. I really enjoyed that character.

I am curious on the direction of the show - and I do wish the scales would balance a bit and the Lannisters would reap more of the karma they have sowed. One thing this show is great at is creating bad guys that you hate.

FWIW, in the books even, I don't think we've really seen much of the "bad guys" yet...

The main characters you know are all just players for power, and are mortals in a land of waking gods...

Winter is coming.

Right, everyone is so busy with their own power plays they forget about the lurking shadow way up north.   No one has a care for the men at the watch.   Not now at least.

karma is a lie to keep the sheep settled in their pens.   we need not seek revenge, they think, for the universe will do it for us

ned's character was boring, cliche, and done a thousand times in fiction.  and he won 999 of those thousand times.

ned's death, robb's death, caitlin's death are what gives weight to the story.   you wouldn't be the first to think the story was about the starks.  but what its really about is the wall.  these other events are what lead to the chaos that weakens the kingdoms prior to the advance of the Other's army.

we're still watching the prologue.   the real story hasn't been revealed yet, but soon it will

Yep... before you know it, everyone you're reading about/watching on TV could be dead at the hands of the Others, and GoT could be turned into a medieval struggle to survive a zombie apocalypse of wights...

"dead things in the water"

probably one of the most chilling lines in the books to me, for some reason

The GOOD people in Game of Thrones are often depicted as BAD. Many times the BAD people are depicted as GOOD.

That said, more than anything, these characters go through a transformation. Every single one of them.

Ned held his oaths higher than anything, when he betrayed those oaths he died.

Robb was an oath breaker, something he killed his kinsman for and something his father routinely executed people for, thus he died and his family died.

Kat acted with as little honor as possible TBH. She released Jamie Lanister, she fuged up negotiations with Renly/Stannis, she fuged up
arresting Tyrion, she fuged up keep Tyrion prisoner and on and on. ALLL of this because she wasn't strong of will and acted like a dumb woman. Thus she died.

Everyone wants to say I quit because of this "loss". YOU really need to be looking at the fact a television shory/book made you have real emotions that cause you to act at all.

Hell yeah on the TV show/story invoking such emotion. To me that proves how epic it is when it can invoke strong emotional response.

TBQH I was spoiled on the Red Wedding before I read it in the book but, even knowing it was coming, I still had to take a break from reading for a few days after it. It is probably the most powerful moment in the series, but there are some good ones yet to come. Some strong, redemptive moments.
