How long do you keep your car

CRA

Recommended Posts

Just sank 1500 on repairs on my 12 year old Passat. Had a long discussion on if its worth it anymore. Car has had more and more problems as parts wear out. Currently in the market for a new car. So sad, had my Passat for a long time.

I had a Passat and as things broke, it really turned into a money pit. Up keep on it was much more expensive than I thought.

Back in the day I traded at least once a year, always to a wholesaler, and always with a few thousand miles on them. Didn't ever get beat up too bad, but not really smart financially either.

I have had the one I am in now for about 2.5 years, and will probably keep it another 2.

between the years 1995-2006 I had 3 cars, (95 Ranger Splash, 95 MX-6, 95 Grand Cherokee) I was stuck in the 95 model year for some reason. Ive had 1 car since, a 2006 Saturn Ion Redline w/Stage 2. Its got a little under 40k on it right now, but I plan on keeping it for as long as it will run and eventually be able to give it to my kid.

What the heck is a Saturn Ion Redline w/ Stage 2? The Saturn Ion I know but what is the other stuff?

Sounds rocket propelled.

I always had a new car, kept it and paid on it for about 4 years when things started to need fixing then traded for another new car.

My last car, a Miata, I leased on a great deal, and in the meantime I dated then married my wife who had a 99 Grand Cherokee that I've been driving since the lease was up a year ago. I've put about 3,000 bucks into it on tires, shocks, some sensor, new headlights, and fixed somethings on my own so it's still cheaper than a new car. Has 156,000 miles on it and I hope to take it to 250,000.

But I will probably do what Husker is doing and relegate it to tailgating/family trips and get a more economical used car for commuting, although that 21st Century Beetle they unveiled yesterday looks pretty tempting...

With this 2.0 Ecotec Supercharged engine and GM Stage 2 is a smaller belt and pulley with high-flow fuel injectors

Ive outran almost every tuner out there and I have kept up with muscle cars. I love it because people pull up beside me expecting to blow me away, and the look on their face as Im pulling away from them is priceless.

lol...

do you speed off at every green light in anticipation that the person beside you wants to race?

No. only when people get up beside me and rev their engine, cut me off or do something to piss me off. I tried to get my Captain to let me go undercover with it but he didn't go for it.
