Not exaggerated at all. Except for one game, I lost count of how many times I saw Clausen throw into the stands or ran out of bounds behind the line.

Again, given Newton's physical talents, he could have turned those runs out of bounds into runs for gains... or scrambled faster and made plays. At this point, Cam's "terrible" accuracy looks better than Jimmy's.

Pure conjecture. The worst LBs in NFL are better than nearly all he played against. Not only that, but D-linmen...outside of some bigger DTs will be able to walk him down in the pros. Sorry, I'm not buying he's Vick who happens more sleek and ran a 4.2 second 40 when he came out of college. A better comparison is Vince Young and he quickly found out that he couldn't ran past or over many players at this level like he did in college.

Oh, agreed. He wasn't getting good protection. Neither was Moore.

But that's why a faster, stronger QB, like Newton, might have better luck.

Big Ben has definitely shown the value he can add by shrugging off D linemen and extending a play. That is certainly an attractive feature that Cam can bring to the table. In addition, Ben isn't all that accurate either. He has been downright mediocre in their Superbowl games. But, you do still have to get the ball to the receiver more often than not. Cam certainly has to potential to be like that, and maybe even better, but an instant upgrade he is not.

Not entirely conjecture....

Cam is bigger than Young. He's faster than young. He played in the SEC, one of college's toughest divisions for Defense (some say THE toughest).

He out ran LBs and CBs consistently. His speed is a MEASUREABLE. His size, is a MEASUREABLE.

As far as him being an instant upgrade... well... considering Jimmy Jam was as bad as we've ever had... I can't see how he wouldn't be.

Cam is the same height and ran the same 40 as VY. Yes, Cam weighs more, but that's not a huge measurable.

Again, he's not playing against college LBs and CBs anymore. He'll be playing the elite.

I don't know how long you have followed the Panthers, but I have seen as bad of QB play before...namely David Carr and the guy we cut Steve Beuerlein for. (Can't think of his name, but we got him from Denver.) Edit: Jeff Lewis

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
