The Pro Dareus crowd

CRA

Recommended Posts

You guys do realize that Marcell Dareus is not Suh? He is basically the polar opposite of Suh. Suh is a pass rushing DT......Dareus isn't. Fairley projects to be a better force in 3rd down scenarios.

I don't see how this need isn't better addressed in the 3rd round (deep draft for DTs) and FA.

McGinn

1. MARCELL DAREUS labama 6-3 319 4.94 1

Third-year junior from Huffman, Ala. "He's a combination of play-making ability, athleticism and explosiveness," Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff said. "He's a top-five pick that will impact a team greatly from Day 1." His father, a Haitian immigrant, passed away when Dareus was 6. "He's a big wrecking ball inside," said Dominik. "One of those big bodies that knows how to get to the quarterback. He should be another one of those big, dominating D-tackles. Kind of like John Henderson, Marcus Stroud, Albert Haynesworth." Played up and down the line for coach Nick Saban. "He's the best 5-technique, the best 3-technique and the best nose tackle," one scout said. "Now you don't want him doing your taxes, but he's a hell of a football player." Started just 15 of 33 games, waiting his turn as is generally the case at Alabama. Finished with 70 tackles (20 for loss), 11 sacks and one "big" play. "He's a power player," said Polian. "Think Richard Seymour." When matched against Florida C Mike Pouncey, Dareus "kicked his (expletive) all day long," observed one scout. Added an AFC scout: "He's the safest and best player in the draft."

you realize sam bradford isn't peyton manning right? so don't bother drafting bradford cause there's value in the later rounds, like the second round, where some guy named clausen will be there waiting for us with such incredible value that we can't pass him up.

oh and btw:

DTs drafted after round 1 have more success than QBs drafted after round 1.

In addition to that, this particular draft is deep in DL talent.

I have put a lot of thought into this. At first he was my #2 behind Cam. Now I hope we don't take him at #1.

Let me start by saying I think he is going to be a good DT. I think you can almost take it to the bank that he will be a starting DT for as long as his body holds up.

I just not sure if he would ever be dominate or great. To be honest Fairley has a much better chance to be a Suh type DT than Dareus does. But Dareus is much safer and has less chance to bust than Fairley.

I see Dareus becoming a very good DT. A guy who get 4 sacks a year and keeps his LBs "clean". But I am not sure he is going to be as disruptive in the backfield as Suh is or as Fairley will be.

I can't say enough that I think Dareus is going to be good. I am not bashing the guy. But when I think about it over and over I have become convinced in my own mind (which means squat) that if we do pass on Cam and stay at #1 we go PP bc PP also gives us a weapon on special teams (assuming he agrees to return kicks and punts)

DTs drafted after round 1 have more success than QBs drafted after round 1.

do you mean this as in a higher percentage of drafted DTs after round one have what you consider "success" over a certain span of time, work and research that you almost certainly haven't done, or that simply in hard numbers there are more DTs drafted after the first round you would consider successful without anything at all to explain what that means than there are QBs you consider successful? something that could probably be explained away by the much higher number of DTs drafted after the first round and the simple numbers game involved?

you realize this thread is terrible right?

you do realize there is tons of talent in this draft at DT right?

Carolina has no 2nd round pick.

You can likely find a better DT in the 3rd than you could a WR, CB, or G.
