The Pro Dareus crowd

I'd feel better about Palmer with Smith on the field, or any vet QB for that matter.

I would as well....I think that could get Smity to stay. Likely you are looking at an improved D and I see no reason Palmer couldn't get us close to what we did in 2008 and parts of 2009.

In terms of his career this is the year he would want to draft a QB. If he waits till next year he likely has only one shot. If he drafts one this year and he misses he will likely have time to correct it. If he misses next year it is likely his clock would expire before he got a second chance.

This along with new HC's sometimes wanting to hand pick & groom there guy especially QB's

If Cam didn't cause such a stir, there would be no Pro Dareus crowd. He would simply be one of many we might pick. But since Cam is so hated, people reach for anything they can to get their mind off him. They make guys look lightyears better than they actually are and put them on a pedestal. The ONLY played in the entire Draft worthy of that is Peterson and I doubt we pick him. Dareus will be solid, but he's not worth the first pick and if Cam weren't scaring some of you to death, you'd barely even mention Dareus as an option.

110% TRUTH. Our fans are more predictable than our playcalling.

Um, the question marks about Cam Newton being able to decipher NFL defenses, never going through a progression in his life, and whether he can succeed as a passer if teams scheme to stop his running are perfectly valid and cause for concern when dealing with the number one pick. And I don't even care about the issues with his dad.

Dareus may not be the freak that Suh is, and thats not even fair to him since Suh is a man child and probably already the best DT in the game. Still, Dareus is the prototype defensive tackle and if you dont think he can collapse the pocket and get to the quarterback from the three technique, you've never seen an Alabama football game. He's pretty much the most complete player in this entire draft.

I've said several times that I'd prefer Dareus but wouldn't be upset with Green, Newton or PP7 but the thing I do know is that AE better get some playing time and show some big improvement this year. All the hate going on here and our draft would be completely different if we had the 33rd overall pick as well. Unfortunately this draft is going to work almost like a fantasy serpentine draft where we get #1 and #65. Dammit.

Some random dude named Bobby Greenwood had more sacks in 2008 from the exact DT position that Dareus played at Bama than Dareus had in 2010. He managed to do that even though he weighed less than 280 pounds.

Someone remind me how Dareus is a dominant enough player to justify going #1 overall?

So he's just a workout warrior then right? He wasn't dominant in college and mock drafts I'm finding from back in January (before he had his Pro Day/Combine) all show him as a mid-first round pick.

How many players can you think of that shot up late because they were workout warriors and turned out to be great players, much less #1 overall great? You know who drafts workout warriors? Al Davis.

Well when he wasn't getting sacks he was busy occupying blockers so that Donta Hightower, Courtney Upshaw, Rolando McClain, etc could get the Qb/Rb.

I don't know why you are so obsessed with sacks. Did you watch tape to see if that Greenwood guy was overpowering blockers? Were they coverage sacks? Did the OL blow their protection? Was it against good opponents?

People like Dareus because of what they see on tape along with his insane athletic ability. Jeez. Also, Dareus sacked Cam ;)

Not only is he a workout warrior but he dominated in college in the toughest conference in the country. There isn't really any player worthy of a #1 overall pick this year but someone has to be picked.
