Has anybody got a Verizon 4G phone yet?

We just recently got 4G here in Wilmington and I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading... I love my X, but I do a lot of surfing on it, and would love the extra speed.

My son is due for an upgrade in May so he could have my X and I could get a Thunderbolt... :D

Looks like the only two 4G phones they even have now are the Thunderbolt and the Samsung Charge... :(

When's the Bionic coming out?

I have the Thunderbolt and was using the 4G while I was in Charlotte/Kannapolis/Concord area.

Believe me, its blazing fast. I was getting 12-15 megs per second speeds.

But, if you use data intensive apps, it WILL kill your battery. But if you just using occasional data its not so bad.

  • 1 month later...

I just purchased the Samsung Charge from Verizon thier first 4g phone and have had nothing but problems and thier customar service is the worst. It appears to me that they releast the phone before they worked out the moble hot spot issues, it has'nt worked since i took it out of the box. Its been one week and they still have not corrected the problem. So all those commercials that talk about support and show hundreds verizon employees their for you is a not true. So if you use your moble hot spot like I do keep your 3g there is not that much differance in speed.

Well when your smart phone has more horsepower than your laptop...yeah I'm going to be using my phone and the fastest data would be nice =)

Though I'm on a nearly two year old Moto Droid and a seven year old Toshiba laptop with a beastly Celeron laptop! I wish someone would hire me for a summer job!

FYI

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/05/verizon-to-swap-unlimited-data-plans-for-tiers-shared-family-plans.ars

The days of unlimited data at Verizon will soon be over, the company said during the Reuters Global Technology Summit this week. Verizon CFO Fran Shammo confirmed that Verizon would make good on its promise to ditch its $30 unlimited data plan option this summer, and tried to soften the bad news by saying the company was planning to roll out "family" data plans that could be shared among several devices.

Verizon has long made it clear that the future of its 3G network is tiered. Late last year, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg told investors that the company would eventually swap its unlimited option with several data plans somewhat similar to AT&T's tiered plans. AT&T got rid of its own unlimited data plan last year and began offering either a 2GB tier for $25/month, or 200MB for $15 per month. "We're not sure we agree yet with how [AT&T] valued the data," Seidenberg said at the time, though he did not elaborate on which options Verizon was taking under consideration.

If you want to get grandfathered in with a 4g phone you better get one soon.

We got my youngest son a cell phone yesterday at Verizon and I was talking to the manager and he said that if you have an old Alltell legacy plan (I do) that we should be good. $20 unlimited data plan... he said that they weren't gonna change that for old Alltell customers.

if you have already signed a contract you're son will be fine. But once this goes through if you get a new contract alltell or not this will apply. I really doubt that after this thing goes through if you decide to get a new phone that they will let you keep it unlimited.

    • Yeah... One bad game for Bryce meaning he's not a pro and should be replaced, after a strong finish to last season is a little premature. But the clock has started for sure. If anything, we've seen that he needs to do something to have a better start to the season. That is not sustainable.  Truth. The team ain't ready. The defense ain't ready. Derrick Brown didn't even look good. Just because you throw a lot of resources into a position group doesn't mean you've magically fixed it. And saying the team is using resources to make a specific QB look serviceable is insane to me. If they're using draft picks at a position, it means they didn't have good players at that position. If they're using free agency to get good players at a position, it means they didn't have good players at that position. It IS NOT to make the QB look serviceable. It's to make the TEAM look serviceable. Football isn't a sport where money necessarily fixes the problem either. I remember the Panthers spent a lot of money on the brother of another olineman, and that was a complete disaster. Paid a lot of money to a HC that was fired half way through his first season and no other team hired him, even though there has been unusually high HC turnover in the NFL. Throwing high draft picks at a position doesn't mean you fixed the problem either. Remember Kelvin Benjamin and Funchess with Cam? Mingo, Marshall... I think after week 4 we'll have a better idea of what we have. This is an extremely young and new group of receivers. The only receiver out there that had ever caught a pass from BY last Sunday was XL. And he wasn't exactly in prime form. I guess if you want to count J. Sanders and Tremble, then... Ok.
    • Bryce sucks, but he has been throwing it downfield somewhat consistently over the last year.  12th in ADOT in Week 1, last year he was 5th/27th among QBs with at least 50% of their teams dropbacks (only Herbert, Love, Darnold, and Lamar Jackson were ahead).  He was 2nd in Big Time Throw % too. Last week he had 4 20+ yard throws (0 completions) and 9 10-19 yards.  Compare that to say, Jared Goff, who was in a similar spot last week as far as needing his team to rally and score - he only had 1 throw of 20+ yards and 6 10-19 yards. So Bryce is definitely a poor downfield thrower, but he has been a willing one, especially since returning from his benching.
    • We are in the craper and will be until this team has more talent and better coaching. They have a long way to go.
