Panthers owner Richardson puts Cam Newton on the clock

Richardson asked Newton what mattered most - being drafted No. 1, or becoming a Panther.

"No, sir, I want to play for the Carolina Panthers," Newton said.

"You don't want to play in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, some place like that?" Richardson asked.

"No sir," said Newton. "I would be very happy to come here and make my career here."

Aww shucks, I bet he tells that to all the teams picking number 1!

To me the handwritten letter really stands out, especially because Richardson has never received a letter from a potential draftee before. I may have had some questions about Cam the player before but I'm glad to see many of them are being answered.

OK the man even made me sign in just to post this c/ I'm so impressed.

That article was GREAT...even if he's just BS'ing and putting on a front he's doing a heck of a job. Some people don't even try to put on a front and if he is, he's going above and beyond IMO.

As stated before it says A LOT about his morals that he doesn't have tattoos (then again I know some people who do horrible things that have neither).

I LOVEEEE the comment about how he didn't just want to be the #1 pick he wanted to be a Panther...do I believe it? HEEECCCKKKK NO... but was it a inspiring to hear...HECK YES (then again IDK why we treat these players like 4 year olds and congratulate them for giving the obvious politically correct answer)

There's a lot to be said for a young athlete not having any tattoos and piercing in this day and age.

As stated before it says A LOT about his morals that he doesn't have tattoos...

What exactly does it say?

I don't ask the question with a particular bias, as I don't have any tattoos or piercings and I'm 33 years old.

But really. What does applied pigment to a person's skin or decorative, quasi-surgical punctures say about a young athlete, or any person's character in general?

    • Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.
    • I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes.
    • So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive.  Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet.  That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!!  hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"
