if it was going to happen this was the year to do it.

burdened with the untradeable #1 in a low elite talent draft

two FA periods between '11 and '12 draft to compensate for traded picks

FA's > high round rookies percentage wise

likely a high pick next year anyway with no rookie cap

holes to fill all over the place

young team who could use a vet in the place of another rook

That's it really. All those great draft picks for the past several years and they have done little outside of the regular season. In August Brady will be 34 which for many QBs spells diminished returns as injuries start to get the best of them and the window is beginningto close. All those great picks don't mean squat if you squander them.

Brady claims he'll play another 10 years, but I don't see it.. as great as he is, he isn't a physical specimen..

Extra first next year.

After they trade up for Andrew luck I'll stop watching football.

if that is the case, hopefully Luck becomes the biggest bust in football history. would be very fitting for that franchise. I would love to see that ship catch fire and sink as all their fans eat the words they've been vomiting on everyone for years.

And yes, they got the steal of the decade in Brady, but that was dumb luck..not "drafting genius". Belichick didn't wait until the sixth round going "mwuhahahaha none of these fools know how great Brady will be...I'm just going to pass on him 5 or so times because I know no one else will draft him! <insert more evil laughter>"

I always love when people reference that as if they were infallible.

That same team traded up to get Laurence Maroney, and took him ahead of DeAngelo Williams.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
