I dont think Harris is as good as some Panthers fans do. His is a hard hitter but overall his coverage skills leave alot to be desired.

of course, but he is the type of safety that fox likes, and I believe his coverage skill is good enough... wonder how it will work with meeks now tho

his coverage skills are adequate for what we use him as, the only reason he wasn't on the line more last season is because they were trying to help godfrey. Expect him to be on the line a lot more this season, similar to how we used him in 07 - 08 season

I think Harris had some nagging injuries after the first 3 or 4 games. I know his shoulder bothered him in the 2nd half of the season. His pass coverage skills are not going to win any awards either.

No, there not. Last season I think he had the injury problem, plus we were trying to help along Godfrey. I think you see more of the Harris we saw in 07 next season. Playing the line and hitting people and forcing fumbles.

A little off topic, but giant spaghetti monster help us if they cut Luc. I don't think Marshall can cover a side, and our safety's can't cover.

I know Luc got a lot of flack, but he's still the 2nd best corner the Cat's have, and most likely better than anyone they will be able to pick up for the 09 campaign. Of course they need to extend him but that's fine cut him down the road when you have a replacement in place.

I agree, Lucas got a lot of undeserved flak, I'll even admit I was one of them. That being said, you can explain Godfrey for that being his first season at a new position really in the NFL. (he is good at coverage, just looked like they added some stuff in mid season that got him confused) I think that's the last you'll see of that. He should develop into a star Safety in the NFL. Marshall will probably unfortunately get the starting nod, either him or CJ wilson. I though wouldn't mind us drafting one in the first three rounds to add to the competition for our starting and nickel spots.

Fox's MO in the secondary has tended toward hard hitters over coverage guys.

Offenses also became a lot more aware of Harris, the continued decline of the front four took it's toll.

Valid.

I gotta put a little into coaching though. When he first came here, he was fresh out of the Ron Rivera school of "always go for the strip" and it showed. A year removed from that philosophy and a year into the Tim Lewis school of "first do no harm" and the results were different.

Be interesting to see what the emphasis is this season.

    • Cooter, Kurb, others have passed on to glory….  Praise be.
    • Oh good for them! Hope this is the start of a long happy time in their lives here.
    • There was no reason to believe in either Cam or Jake as a top tier elite QB before those seasons either. Cam was an "athletic" QB in most people's minds and his passing skills were open for debate. And there was a bit to that as he was still trying to get that massive power in his arm tamed to be able to put some touch on his passes. And then, he did it. Missiles became bombs, the firing lanes became points of finesse. Cam grew up and leveled up, while still retaining the ability and drive to truck people whenever he wanted. And Jake... no one freaking believed in Jake except Jake himself. He got, and let's be honest with this, one chance in a losing game to make something out of his career. And he rose to the occasion like some kind of mythical hero and continued to do so for the season. He became a true leader for the team, and his gunslinger capabilities rehabbed Moose's career and created Smitty as a force in the league. Smitty went from a barker to a biter. But no one believed in Jake going in. And they trashed him on his way out. Now Bryce... who knows? I've seen some improvement. Maybe he finds his footing. His teammates seem to love and respect him and that means a lot. The game should be moving at his speed now. He has weapons available to him and maybe a defense that doesn't just roll over by the third quarter. And his coach seems to be moving this team in the right direction. Could he do it? It's up to him, if he can find the magic like Jake and Cam did. But don't doubt this, magic is really, really hard to find.
