Thinking of getting a tablet...weigh in please.

I have a Dell Inspiron Duo I like quite a bit... has table functionality but it is heavier than a typical tablet. doesn't bother me but it might bother some. basically a netbook that flips to be a tablet. I use it for teaching and research work, because I like the fact it has a hardware keyboard because I can't handle typing anything big on a software keyboard.

Thats not the question.

The question is what can it do better than what you already own.

The answer is anything web based with more comfort and ease of use. Throw in music and tons of amazing apps and games and you have an answer.

We have an xbox 360, nintendo Ds, Xbox Kinect and Laptop in our house and my wife and kids fight over the ipad.

Eh, to each his own. Played around with an IPAD and I just don't see what it brings to the table that my Blackberry, Xbox, Desktop and two laptops, and the Wii don't already do. Would much prefer to save my money for a trip to Hawaii or Europe or just save it in general.

I want to download home plans, lot sizes, set backs in certain neighborhoods, price sheets, entry codes, slide shows, etc into it so that I can have it for my appointments with clients.

Laptop is too big, and slow, and phone is too small to really show my clients whatever it is that I am presenting.

Thats a pretty good reason. To many people nowadays buy gadgets just because they are the newest thing, but if it makes your business work better, I can certainly understand it.

I agree completely DD... I played with one for a while about two weeks ago and it's cool and all, but I just don't see what the big deal is. It seems to me like typing on it is a pain in the ass... and I'm not just talking about Ipad's I'm talking about tablets in general.

You could have already had that trip and the money if you chose to buy only half of those devices...

Blackberry and one of the laptops was provided by my employer. My son bought the Xbox with his birthday money saved up over the last two years. Only things that I bought were the desktop (which is 4 years old now), the Wii and the laptop. So I did only buy about half of those devices. :)

Well then. Leave your son with his Xbox and your wife with her Wii fit and get your ass to Hawaii!!

Bought my wife an iPad. And not once have i wanted to use it over my small laptop, a Dell Vostro v13.

Dont get me wrong its a cool device, and would be nice for a plane trip, but the lack of flash truly sucks.

What exactly can you not do because it not having flash?

I am a tech caveman.

Pretty much anything flash enabled on websites can be a problem. From ads, to games to youtube....you'll run into things that don't work exactly as they should on your computer.

Keep in mind the apps correct this, so you would go to youtube on the youtube app. It's not really hard to get used to, but it is a positive of an Android powered device.
