Teams with #1 Picks and their record the next Season

Recommended Posts

I would be thrilled to see us in the playoffs, and of course as fans we always find hope and reason to believe in our team to go all the way. I would just be happy if we didn't have double digit losses. 7-9 at worst or this season will be a fail in my eyes.

Seems the majority of the Panther fans feel this way. Of course we would always want them in the playoffs.

In 2010 we thoroughly underachieved. Everything that could go wrong, did. Only a few haters felt we were going to be 4 wins or less. Even with a mediocre DL we still had a pretty good defense. The OL was intact minus one guard from 2009. We had 2 of the best RBs and a Pro Bowl WR in SS. We added two solid WRs. Our Biggest issue was QB and I think we had adaquately address that issue.

The lack of training camp will hurt some, no doubt. Which is why I say if we go 2-2 and can get some confidence for Newton. It isn't impossible to go 8-4 or 9-3 coming down the stretch. The longer we stay in the hunt the better our chances are of pulling it off.

The whole reason for posting the OP was to measure us against the Dolphins and Chargers when they went to the playoffs. I think TALENT wise we are a far superior team then either SD or Miami. While our Schedule is the toughest, Primarily because the NFC South opponents were a minimum 10-6. They are our division rivals and we will give them a good game regardless.

I believe with the New Staff, new Philosophy, New QB and good start. We could get there. Miami and SD did it with less talent. WHY CAN'T WE.

Go Panthers

NOTHING'S IMPOSSIBLE!!! That said, it's super unlikely. It's a new system likely with an extremely brief period to implement and it will rely on a lot of young skill position players on offense. Struggles are pretty much guaranteed. I'm just hoping we don't get our heads kicked in.

Take what you want from this 8 day unauthorized mini-camp. But when (or should I say IF) the real camps begin this won't be a total surprise. We had a good defense last year. Hopefully our defense will grasp the new regime and keep us in the game.

I have no doubt it will be difficult but not as improbable as most you all think. We are a far cry better than the 02 team when Fox took over and we went 7-9 that season. I also don't think ANY of you are taking into account the players resolve to turn this around and NOW!!!!

Until we are mathematically eliminated I won't change my POV..

Call me stubborn

The biggest differences between the 2002 team and now are:

1. We are playing in by far the best and toughest division (2002 not so much)

2. We had a vet QB in 2002....now not so much.

Is there an outside chance at 7 or so wins....sure. We do have a lot of talent and much will depend on how Newton plays.

I still think that 5-6 wins is far more likely.....but I do like your optimism.

QB play was atrocious last year...no doubt. However, the poor OL play was jsut as responsible. No running game and now pass protection.

I think the Panthers have too many hurdles this season, if there is one.

New Coach

New Playbooks

Rookie QB that may or may not start

Suspect receivers outside of Smith

Hardest schedule

Toughest division

Possibly shortened Training Camp

If the Panthers win 6 games this year, I would consider that overachieving.

oh good a falcons fan here to tell us what our obstacles are

meanwhile matty ice still cant win a playoff game and the falcons are the bestest team EVAR to take the field and are predicted to win three superbowls every year but still suck balls.

gtfo you dont matter

IMO, too many hurdles too. The biggest being not having regular training camps and off season workouts with the coaches with a rookie QB. Need more than just a playbook. New coach and new system for the returning players will have a learning curve I would think too.

But I think others teams and media think Panthers are worse than they really are. I think we have a great backfield combo with Stewart and Williams, IF Williams comes back being a FA. Just hope our WR core improves; or Cam won't have anybody to throw the ball too - he'll be running for his life!!

I still like our defense.

    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
    • Good response. In reference to your second paragraph, many Huddlers are just haters when it comes to certain people.
