Strong Beliefs - Joe Kenn, Panthers Strength and Condition Coach

I'd like to see the Panthers incorporate some MMA training in their conditioning. Fox's Glazer has had some tremendous success with a number of players and they feel it's the best training they've ever done. One of the additional benefits is that it makes the body more flexible and less likely for muscle tears and ligament damage.

And from being in the military I can tell you first hand... There would be WAY MORE injuries doing mma than just regular training camp! Put that in the bank! Alpha males going head to head is a recipe for disaster! Ask TRD if u don't believe me...

As far as all around strength and conditioning it's great! A real smoker, but you don't want football Team getting hurt doing it.

It's the Training NOT the Fighting FGS. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Clay-Matthews-Jay-Glazer-MMA-training-Green-Bay-Packers-011911

Did I miss the part where they talked about doing MMA training?

He talked about how the elbow thrust at the top of the clean was like an MMA punch, but I watched the whole thing and didn't hear any references to MMA beyond that.

LOL, agree.... a teammate and I thought it would be good conditioning for us to put on boxing gloves and spar, he came away with a broken nose and I came away with a pretty badly sprained wrist.

P.S. I'm not saying I'm a badass, he was giving away 6" in height and about 80 lbs.

No you didn't miss anything. Once again a poster has changed the whole "mood" of the thread because he didn't think before posting. It's pretty much to be expected; so I just go with it now instead of letting it bother me.

even though not much was said about mma, i can see how the training for it could fit in with what kenn is wanting to do. it's all about quick, sudden, and violent power movements.

btw...i can't wait to see what the new weight room looks like. hopefully they get it done soon. working out in the temp facility is probably going to hold back the development of the players.

    • I mean I think its a bit disingenuous to call basically anyone here a casual fan. I don't think the casual fan creates a profile then logs into it, in the offseason, to comments on mundane offseason topics.. I dont think anyone on here would be considered a casual fan. That said, I get your point. My POV is from the player. They sign this contract, move their family because of these contracts. When Clowney came him, we basically had a coming home party for him.  So yeah, I get why we did it and I know that ultimately the owner doesnt 'save' money, but I can feel for the human side of the player, which is why I want them to get all they can while they can.
    • My guess is the NBA will either send Flagg back “home” to the Northeast in Brooklyn or Washington, or San Antonio so that they can keep building around Wemby. If I was a betting man I would take the odds on the Spurs. This definitely feels like a #1 pick that they will rig.
    • In fairness, she is ensuring she is talked about.  People really aren’t going out there way to bring her up.  It’s some weird poo.  She would end up getting talked about given her actions if she was 40. Bill realizing some of these high end “companions” got a game of their own.  That’s what I don’t think Bill saw coming.
