Change to UFC Main Event fights

UFC President Dana White shocked many MMA fans when he announced all main event bouts on Ultimate Fighting Championship fight cards will be increased to five rounds, whether it's a title fight or not. White told reporters on June 9:"From this day forward, as we speak right here, right now, every fight that is a main event that is not a title fight will be five rounds."

The UFC's new rule is scheduled to take effect after UFC 133, and it will be interesting to see how the news is received by MMA fans.

I'm not really sure I like it. You have to have title fights different than regular fights, that's why the call the late rounds the "championship" rounds.

I don't know how else to do it? 3,5 and 7? 5 and 6 but get rid of the 10 point must scoring system to avoid draws?

thats my only gripe. And to add, I like there are some non-title fights id like to see go longer, and some...eh.

5 rounds shouldn't be an issue if these guys weren't cutting so much weight to fight smaller men.

Frankie Edgar walks around close to 155, fights at 155, and can probably fight 10 rounds.

Guys that are scared of men the same size and cut 40 pounds are the ones that are going to get gassed out. Cutting 15-20 is no big deal, when you balloon up two to three weight classes, it's time to fight bigger men and you won't blow your wad in the first round.

I walk around near 170 and fight at 155 and can go all night. If I was to cut to 135, I'd probably be dead, literally. That poo isn't good for your organs.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
