maybe this stuff means something...maybe it doesn't

here it is at any rate.

AlbertBreer And Carl Eller is in the building. Interesting.

AlbertBreer Eller is of course a plaintiff for the retired players in Brady & Eller v. the NFL.

AlbertBreer Interesting - Plenty of football-involved folks (Bill Polian, Scott Pioli, Bruce Allen, Kevin Demoff, etc.) here at this 2-per-club meeting.

AlbertBreer ... Number of football people here indicates that they'll be talking about how to get the league year up and running, when a deal is done.

MarkMaske In addition to the owners, there are a lot of football-operations people on hand today--Rich McKay, Scott Pioli, Bill Polian, Bruce Allen.

MarkMaske The football operations people presumably are here to discuss issues like how free agency would work after a potential deal with players.

MarkMaske It still appears the dissent among the owners is not enough to generate the nine votes that would be needed to block a potential deal.

MarkMaske But again, this meeting seems designed for every owner to have a say now, before a deal is done, and to get everyone on the same page.

dkaplanSBJ Westin O'hare lobby already buzzing with NFL activity. Most owners already here. Bob kraft just walked in. Meeting starts soon

dkaplanSBJ Carl eller, who is still suing the NFL, just came out of a room with jeff pash. Had a camera slung around his shoulder

dkaplanSBJ Lots of football side people here at this meeting, likely to talk about how to get league up and running if we get there

_____________

this is encouraging and a surprisingly lucid/sober statement from irsay that wasn't quoting a pink floyd song

DonBanks Colts owner Jim Irsay at NFL meeting: "It's the season to make a deal. This is the time, in the next couple weeks. ''

DonBanks More Irsay: "It's always fragile and difficult. But 90 percent or more on both sides want to get a deal, so both sides keep working.''

DonBanks Irsay on the push to save the entire preseason: "I think that's the hope. That's the logic on both sides. It just makes sense to have ...''

DonBanks More Irsay: "...a sense of urgency and get a deal done.'' Irsay was optimistic and repeated that now is the time to get a new CBA done.

DonBanks It is now expected by the league that today's meeting will last only one day only, with no Wed. session required by the owners.

dkaplanSBJ Expectation here is this will be a one day meeting.

DonBanks I was told by one league source that NFL commish Roger Goodell "has his game face on. He's ready.'' Big day for the Rog, + all here know it.

DonBanks You can expect the NFL's negotiating team and the players' side to meet somewhere for more talks as soon as this owners meeting is over.

Don Banks about 5m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks NFL wants to capitalize on the momentum that it hopes will come from getting some consensus at this meeting, and won't delay talks at all.

AlbertBreer As noted by others already, this is expected to be a one-day meeting, as was originally scheduled.

MarkMaske It is widely expected the owners will leave town by tonight and the meeting won't last into Wednesday, but nothing certain yet.

DonBanks There will be some dissent/concerns heard here from owners, but early sense is that opposition won't prove a huge road block to a deal.

noon update....

AlbertBreer Have been told, for what it's worth, that the high number of "football people" here is no mistake. And there are really 2 reasons for it ...

AlbertBreer ... 1) To maintain competitive balance, assure teams involved w/labor comm don't have an edge; 2) To plan for how end of lockout would look.

Albert Breer about 7m ago via web

AlbertBreer Doesn't mean anything's imminent, as I just said on NFLN, but when talks b/w players/owners resume after they leave, it prepares everyone.

Albert Breer about 5m ago via web

AlbertBreer ... Meant ... When player/owner talks resume after they leave Chicago.

more nooner updates...

DonBanks That "football side'' club personnel like M. Holmgren, S. Pioli, Rick Smith, John Scheider, etc. are here is a very good sign for the fans.

Don Banks about 3m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks It means that there's a clear focus on what it would take to re-start things after the lockout ends, like free agency, college FA signings.

Don Banks about 2m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks Getting the game re-started as equitably as possible for all would be where their expertise comes in. Not the nitty-gritty of a labor deal.

adbrandt Hearing NFL team representatives are being allowed "the floor" to comment on potential deal terms, sounds like open forum on issues.

dkaplanSBJ Owners have broken for lunch. So far most have been publicly tight lipped.

daniel kaplan about 1h ago via Twitter for Android

DonBanks Still relatively early, but we're hearing there is so far no significant dissent being voiced today regarding direction of CBA talks.

Don Banks about 29m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks League owners are expected to go back into meeting at 1:30 pm CT, but only "for a couple more hours'' after that. That's good news, fans.

Don Banks about 28m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks It means the NFL will have a consensus of sorts among owners coming out of here today, and going back into talks with the players.

Don Banks about 28m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks Roger Goodell is scheduled to address the media after the meeting closes, but not expected to divulge much of significance. Stay tuned.

Don Banks about 26m ago via TweetDeck

DonBanks Hate to be a bleeding heart optimist about the labor fight, because it's not my nature, but all indications are positive ones in Chicago.

Don Banks about 14m ago via TweetDeck

AdamSchefter More at ESPN: If and when agreement is reached, all players with 4, 5 and 6 years of service are expected to be unrestricted free agents.

Adam Schefter about 8m ago via UberSocial

FO_DougFarrar WOW. From a trusted source. @HBalzer721 Meeting might last only another couple hours. This deal will be basically done by end of next week.
