Diaw picks up option, will be back with Cats next year

Recommended Posts

Boris Diaw officially picked up the $9 million player option on his contract for next season.

We reported back in April that he planned to do this all along, so this move simply makes it official. It's a no-brainer for Diaw, as there is no way he'd be able to garner that much money on the open market as a free agent. He'll continue to be an attractive fantasy asset because of his ability to contribute across the board, but his inconsistency severely detracts from his value.

If they dont bring him back then the Bobcats have to fork over 9 million dollars. That will not happen, so he is all but guaranteed to be back next year.

What are you talking about? It was a player option he will be back, unless he is traded. Nothing we can do about it. Yes he is owed 9 million dollars, but when you trade players you have to match salaries, so it doesn't matter.

Yeah, if they trade him, but for the time being he is back on the team. But the Bobcats probably won't trade him because his contract will be expiring next year, and everyone know's the Cats love gathering up their expiring contracts.

Yeah a trade is the only way he won't be on the team. Diaw is a very attractive piece because of that expiring so it might be a great opportunity to trade him. Either way Thomas needs more playing time.

Yes he might be on the team next year, but your reasoning is wrong. You act like we are going to release him. He is picking up a player option, we have no control over that. But now he has picked him that option and under contract we can now trade him. That's all we are saying. The money thing is a non issue.

Well they technically could release him, I know it won't happen; but they could.

I hope he's not a starter. I think he'd be a better player for us if we brought him in off the bench as a 6th man, to fill in for the 3 and 4 when we need him. I'd much rather have TT at PF and Jax as a SF starting. Hendo obviously taking over at SG.

I'm working off a hunch here, but I think he's gonna be traded draft night, most likely to Toronto.

BTW, they have a 9m trade exception that matches up perfectly to trade Diaw to them for nothing in return, and I expect that we would swap picks with them (5 for 9). That would be an EPIC WIN.

i'm starting to think he will get traded draft night as well...might even be packaged with one of our picks or maybe even another player(jackson)

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
