Will Clausen really get a chance?

Jimmy Clausen will start if Cam gets injured. the only reason i say that is because Matt Moore will probably get signed somewhere else, leaving Jimmy as the only other QB with experience.

how is that? Rivera isn't a lame duck forced to only have youth on his roster.....you don't draft Cam #1 overall and only have young newbs like Clausen and Pike on the roster. Rivera will have to add a QB older than Clausen/Pike to his roster.

Agreed, there is no way the Panthers don't sign a vet QB in free agency, likely to be the backup, if we can't retain Matt Moore.

The only scenario that Clausen starts the regular season is if Cam is really bad. It really doesn't matter how well Clausen plays.

Where Clausen may start is the first few pre-season games, if there are any.

It's important to remember that unlike the boat anchor that is Steve Smith's contract, Clausen was signed for almost nothing in Carolina. If you are a Seattle or some other team in need of a young QB, Clausen has a fair amount of starting experience yet could be acquired for not much more than backup money.

If Rivera and Chud opt to play Cam....I think they let him continue to play regardless of how bad things get. Clausen at this point is irrelevant in the QB talk unless injury comes into play.

I disagree with that only because Cam has the potential of being extremely bad. I look at his passing skills and just don't see any comparable QBs to date that have succeeded as rookies... Mike Vick might be the closest.

To be clear, I'm talking about the point up to Cam being named the full-time starter. Once he acheives that role there will be no controversy and no going back except for injury. All of it will be decided in the preseason, IMO.

I've said this before, but let me reiterate it...

The best we can hope for... Is for Cam to go out for two games due to some trivial injury, like a concussion... Then Jimmy comes in and plays lights out like Kevin Kolb did when McNabb was out...

That will boost his trade value tremendously and we might just get that 1st round early 2nd round pick back that we originally wasted on the guy.

That's the best case scenario for the franchise, not just my opinion.

I don't even care about regaining any value out of clausen.

I know most arm chair GM's say ya got to regain some value...get something for him. They are obsessed with it.

The draft is a gamble. There isn't a team in the league that gets value out of their busts. It's also unfair to expect "hurney to do so, and if he doesn't, he sucks!"

This isn't soley directed at you...so don't take it that way.

Clausen sucks. He has no value to any team, cause they can just wait for him to be cut.

Ya cut ways with trash...not try to get value for it.

Cam does have boom or bust potential.....however his athleticism alone will keep him from being Clausen level horrific. Clausen only plays if Cam and the vet get injured or both are horrific. I think odds are against that.

You don't start Clausen and hand the keys to Cam. If you go that route you start a vet.
