He is far and away the best QB prospect available and the most underrated free agent.

Jtm... This is just my opinion, but I think that our fan base had extremely high hopes that Clausen was going to save this franchise... And when he failed miserably we (as in the fanbase) got a sour taste In our mouths... To the point that we don't really care about him too much. I think we all hope that he gets exponentially better this season, but I don't think too many people on this board think that he will actually make a big improvement. That's just my take on why the double standard with JC exists. Take it or leave it.

also, QBs generally don't improve greatly from year 1 to year 2 in the NFL. Factor in Clausen will be forced to learn a new offense......there just doesn't seem to be any reason to assume their will be improvement this year from him.

I mean arguing Clausen will be the exception to the norm isn't something most are going to agree w/.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. Matt Moore has had as many horrific games as he has had good games. The NFL is littered with guys that are not consistent. If receivers aren't open I would rather see the QB throw the ball into the 10th row instead of throwing into triple coverage. Don't take my word for this, ask any coach in the world if they would rather see a ball thrown out of bounds or forced into coverage. It just blows my mind how there is such a double standard in the treatment of Clausen v. other players.

Add to the fact that everyone knows Fox favors players with experience v. rookies. Say whatever you want about Moore but he has been in the NFL for 5 years and should have the advantage over Clausen. The coaches get to see what guys do in practice day in and day out. Combination of his game performance coupled with the fact that Fox chose a rookie over Moore says it all.

If that was the case, we wouldn't of made the playoffs in 2003, 2005 or 2008 most likely.....Carolina those years tooks risks in the passing game and they were often very big plays that impacted many games.

Throwing deep to Smitty when he is covered is a risk I am willing to take. Throwing to Barnidge or other players when they are double or triple teamed is not one I am willing to take.

Well said and I agree with you 100%. I just wish people would admit this rather than trying to manifest other reasons that make no sense.

Matt had his best year in 09, when he had Smitty and Moose, a healthy O-line, and a productive running game. Last year he had Gettis and Lafell, a shaky O-line, and virtually no running game.

Matt is a "Gunslinger". He needs all the components of the Offense to work to be effective. He needs time in the pocket to allow his WRs to work themselves open, and a strong O-line and running game allow him that time. He needs time to be effective, and last year, for whatever reason, he did not get that time.

When the season started last year our Offense, for some reason, was flat. The O-line was shaky and we had no running game what so ever. Matt lost his starting job doing what he does best, which is to wait in the pocket and throw down field. Unfortunately, the O-line let him down, and for that he paid a heavy price, a concussion. (Which in my opinion, he was not over when he was put back in.) He did return to only get knocked down once again. This time ending his year.

All that is said so I can predict that the "Stafford Rule" will be in effect this year. If Matt is healthy, he should start. The only knock on Matt when he is healthy is his INTs, which I believe are a product of his style, not of his ability. With Gettis and Lafell a year older, and, hopefully, a happy Smitty Matt should have plenty of weapons to work with.

Long story short. It is my belief that Rivera and Co. will start whomever they feel can best give them a shot to win. And I feel that a healthy Matt Moore can be that guy. Clausen will have to be lights out to even get in the conversation. He has never been lights out, and I just do not see that changing in one off-season.

Ok, I am done. And GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!

Nearly half of Matt's turn overs were from him trying to make a play when we were already buried by 20 points. He at least showed the courage to try rather than puss out and throw it way when he had nothing to lose (Clausen).

and the other half came early in games when there was either no score, tied, or carolina was down by one score...i looked it up.

he wouldn't have to try to force plays if he hadn't put them in a hole in the first place.

and let's not forget about the fumbles...

The Jimmy supporters use the "But Jimmy was put in a bad situation last year. No rookie can be expected to succeed in that circumstance." argument. Then completely ignore the fact that Matt played under those same conditions. Not counting the fact that the O-line was at its worse at the beginning of the season. Or that Gettis and Lafell had yet to make an impression.

I guess we will find out how the new staff feels about Matt on whether they bring in a Vet. Even that is no guaratee that Matt cannot win the starters job. I do realize that Matt does not have a ton of starter experience, but when the Panthers O has played well Matt has played well.

The Panthers can both save money and a roster spot IF Matt can win the staters roll. And lest we forget, there is still the chance Cameron can win the job. Which IMO would actually tickle me to death.

Just my thoughts, and lest we forget GOOOO PANTHERS!!!

I think everyone should have to rewatch all of Moore's games last year before making any comments. If you rewatch those games and come away with anything other than he is awful, then you obviously have a man crush on Moore. It is beyond all belief to me for people to defend him (but not Jimmy) after what we saw last year.
