computer help plz

OK, I am running winXP and trying to load a game from Disk. However..... the Disk drive can't "see" the disk. Any idea why?

Other disks I put in will autorun with no problems.

But Total War will not? My son tried another game too ... same thing? The disk drive does not "see" the disk... so basically 2 different game disks.

We have 2 computers - one everything works as normal but thiat is an older pc with older graphics card. The new pc is the problem?

Have you tried to manually load it or find it by going to to "my computer"? I'm assuming you have. Still using Windows XP? Damn.

Update... the problem is that the new games are on DVD... great, I have a DVD drive, but for some reason its no longer reading DVD's.

History - I had to reformat this drive a couple weeks back, so I assume that I have lost the driver for the DVD player and can't find one.. it is a HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCCH30N and all I keep finding are gimmick sites for it. damn!

Try to find a driver. You could try installing in safe mode, I've done that once or twice before and it works.

Have been looking for a driver.... every place I find wants to install and sell me a program to find the driver.

I can't find my driver CD that came with the pc either...poo!

Replace the drive.

It works reading CDs so its not a software issue.

I had this issue once and took the game back. Got the new game and it loaded with no problems.

You probaly just need a DVD codec.

Try deleting system32.

well. the genuises at dell tell me that they cannot provide me with the driver even though they installed the device? so I will have to replace the drive....poo!
