Would anyone else feel comfortable with Anderson starting?

Would I be comfortable with it? Yes. Is it what I want to see? I'm not sure.

Ultimately, when the 11th comes 'round (which I'll be in N. Myrtle Beach for, btw) I want to see the guy who is the most ready starting, and in my view that may, may be Anderson.

Yes, he was in there against the 3rd stringers Saturday night and didn't do anything that made me jump off the couch when I watched on Sunday morning. But he seemed to show vision, poise (and strangely) confidence when he was in the game.

I do, however premature, trust the judgement of Rivera and Chud enough to make the right call. Anyone who pays attention to my posts (few as they may be) know I view the 2011 season with a very pragmatic eye, and no matter what decisions are made at QB this season, I'm ready to be patient.

even if this was a playoff team, Anderson isnt one to lead them to the playoffs. i say let Cam or Jimmy start, the best of the two.

True....but the more important aspect of reps at camp is to teach Clausen and Cam.

Anderson knows this offense. Don't read too much into the reps.

Right now, I could see any of the three as the opening day starter....which is a great thing.

All three are playing well enough to warrant the starting nod.....they bring different positives to the team right now.

Cam....explosiveness, yet inconsistent

Clausen....more consistent than Cam, but definitely lacks the big play ability

Anderson.....vet understanding of both the game and the offense. Actually, is probably the safest pick as the starter.

I love it that our staff actually does not have to settle for the lesser of three evils.

They will put the best guy out there day 1......will be interesting in the Pre-Season to see how this shakes out.

Lastly....any of you that think you "know" why DA was brought here, why he came here, what Rivera will do.....are a bunch of smoke blowing idiots.

We were able to predict what Fox was thinking about 90% of the time. This is a new day and a new staff. We have NO IDEA what Rivera and team are going to do.

I am torn on this question. Anderson seems like he could start no problem, and be able to engineer some drives and keep us competitive.

In that sense, then yes, I would like to see Anderson start. But I would much rather go with Cam or Jimmy.

It factors into the whole "franchise QB" deal. You look at teams who have drafted a young QB, like TB, Atlanta, STL, NYJ, and they went with their rookie QB's. If you give Jimmy or Cam the ropes, one of them will stand out as the better QB. From there, you rally around one of them.

Anderson isn't the future of the Carolina Panthers. He has proved through his previous seasons that he wasn't the future of any franchise. In this sense, I feel like it is wasted time to start him.

It is a tough question, though.

I don't understand why people think it's bad to let rookies sit for awhile, especially fresh QBs who need to grasp a new system? I think we live in a world of make believe video games and Fantasy Football and don't see the "human factor" in a player developing and working his way into a system.

Granted, there have been some guys like Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan who were tossed to the wolves from day one and managed to be a success. BUT sometimes, it isn't what the team originally expected. I know Flacco was suppose to sit early on but Kyle Boller got seriously injured and Troy Smith got an illness, and Joe found his way to first string. Matt Ryan did start week 1 by winning out the job, but overall.. it doesn't happen a lot and isn't normal and when it doesn't, the QBs aren't always great, even if their teams are. Mark Sanchez did start, for instance, but ended up throwing something like 20 interceptions, although the Jets somehow freakishly ended up 9-7 overall. On the flip side, when comparing Newton to similar players like himself, Josh Freeman didn't start until week 9 of his rookie season. Just something to chew on.

Still, even with those guys we aren't looking at QBs with Super Bowl rings. As far as Ben Roethlisberger, Tommy Maddox started the 2004 season for Pittsburg and Ben wasn't named the starter until week three, after some injuries occurred. The Steelers had actually planned on sitting Ben all of his first year. On top of that, I remember Aaron Rodgers sitting behind Bret Farve for a loooooooooong time and Tom Brady didn't start until the third game of his second season. Even Michael Vick, another high profiled #1 pick, sat behind Chris Chandler early on, as head coach Dan Reeves didn't feel Vick was ready to on week 1. Plus, Eli Manning another "much talked about" #1 pick didn't start until week 11!

With Brady, Rogers, Eli and Roethlisberger, we're talking about some GREAT Super Bowl-winning qbs here that waited a bit before starting. I know Payton was thrown in early and his success is no joke but Manning is on another level as far as being mentally prepared before games and maturity goes. I just know that there really is no written rule on how to bring up a rookie QB, even the high profile ones. I just don't see the point in being frustrated if Newton isn't suited up and ready to start week 1! I know he was a first pick and we expect him to be NFL material from the get-go, but I can't help but think back to the disaster that was starting Drew Bledsoe from day one. I remember Bill Parcells, their coach made a comment about how much Drew was getting paid and that he'd better start. Even though the Pats won like 5 games all year, Bledsoe took a physical beating and a lot of critics argue that it destroyed his career.

Just something to think about.

For me it's not that. it's the fact that if Newton isnt ready to start, why can't Clausen do it????? i know he didnt have a good year last year, but neither did Anderson and i rather throw Clausen out there and see if he can improve his trade value than start Anderson.

Jury's still out. We need to see a lot more work from all three of them.

Why would he need to start the first preseason game? I was talking to one of my friends who lives for Sundays... asked him if he's happy to have NFL football this weekend. He said "this weekend isn't NFL football, it's football for rookies and second teamers. The next two weeks we'll see NFL football for a half, and then maybe a quarter the following week."

Guess Eli is a rookie or second teamer playing with rookies and second teamers.
