The reality of Clausen's good night

Stats don't matter to me, not once did I quote his completion percentage as evidence of his lack of accuracy. I talked about what I saw on each play adn my reasoning for saying it was a good/bad throw.

I couldn't have given Cam higher praise for that ball that Armanti dropped. It was perfect. Perfect drop, perfect plant, perfect throw. fuging beautiful.

Problem is, it was the only pass that was close to that. Back foot here, back foot there, bouncer here, sail one there.

I'd be more than willing to give him credit when he deserves it, but I won't let myself be blinded by "hope" and use that to draw my conclusions.

This just proves that mechanics are meaningless if your receivers don't catch the ball, or are not timing their routes right.

Hell, I'd be happy if we got that mentally disabled kid from NC to come chuck granny tosses into the end zone if I knew we had a receiver that could out run anyone in the league and could catch it.

It actually IS about how the play ends TRD, not what went into it.

BTW... take any QB in the league, and you'll find poor mechanics in a healthy number of plays. Sometimes there just isn't enough time to ballet into a swan dance before that 285 lb. DE comes crashing your ass into the ground.

Drive 1 - result was a pick 6 on a horrific throw.

Drive 2 - 3 and out. Ending w/ a Clausen sack and Clausen's trademarked horrible play in a NFL pocket.

Drive 4 - another 3 and out.

Drive 5. another 3 and out. - trademarked Clausen pocket play hurting the drive

The highlight of his night

Drive 3 - 2 big plays by Williams. A run and a screen (extension of the ground game). Clausen makes a downfield throw to the endzone....but put the ball behind Olsen who adjusted for a TD grab.

Now this thread isn't purely meant to knock Clausen. Just pointing out the reality he clearly didn't play better than Cam Newton like so many are pimping around a variety of threads. Clausen really didn't do much and was a mixed bag of both good and bad during each of those drives.

this thread isn't a Cam outplayed Clausen thread either as that statement is not being made.

People keep making excuses about how Newton's WRs dropped the ball, well when Clausen was in the WRs did NOT play any better. they either got NO seperation or caught the ball after having a foot out of bounds (Thanks LaFell) the reality is that it was a draw in my book. that's how i seen it and that's how i called it. Newton had the best poise, that was clear, but Clausen had the TD. As of now it's a draw, Newton will get his chance with the starters vs Miami (IF i'm right that is) and then after that i think a starter is close to being named.

Please break down Clausen's game with the same intensity, that you do with Cam. I actually think you would be the perfect person to break down Jimmy's performance.

I tried but I can't stand watching him on TV...it hurts my heart to see him and that ugly face he has.

This is a true story

Fact is, there are at most five or six people on here who look at Clausen and Newton objectively. And as you're reading this, realize that you're probably not one of them.

Yeah, there are people on Cam's jock no matter what....

There are a couple of us who are willing to give Jimmy a pass on last season when pretty much the entire team mailed it in, coaches all.

You mean the pressure that he wouldn't step up into and was constantly throwing off his back foot because? The pressure that made him look scared in the pocket causing countless errant throws?

Yeah, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal strong point for him.

puts him ahead of Clausen in that one aspect.....and that is signicant considering the offensive scheme. Didnt say he was perfect yet. He has lots to work on. Fact remains, he stayed in, saw the throw, threw the ball........also every pressured throw wasn't off the backfoot.

Clausen bails at an absurd rate.

you may not be impressed but the NY defensive coordintor thought it was noteworthy.

Just went back and looked at Clausen's game. The kid made 2 big throws, 3 if you count the Lafell out of bounds throw, but if we're not counting Cam's dropped passes, we're not counting the Lafell play.

With that said, that leaves the very first play of the game, and the touchdown throw.

I count the out of bounds LaFell throw when evaluating Clausen......it was a good throw. LaFell's role and the fact the play didn't count is big picture.

I count Cam's big 3rd down throw that AE dropped as a good throw. I also didn't mind certain incompletions and that they showed some positive. Like his early throw to Olsen down the sideline.....placed where the defender couldn't get it and gave Olsen a chance to make a play in one on one coveage. Incompletion...but not a bad throw.
