Charly Martin

Does anyone think we will be able to keep him on the roster this season? Even with Gettis going down the numbers may just not work for him. I think we would have to keep 6 wrs on the roster for him to make it and it would still come down to him or Clowney for that 6th spot.

I think he offers more with his ST plays and from what I've seen really gets at it during practice.

What does everyone think about his chances?

i've always wanted charly martin to make the squad, but he's had horrible luck so far...

he'd have to make the team as a #6 WR, but clowney is definitely ahead of him at this point. imo, i'd rather have martin over clowney as he adds much more in ST's. martin isn't afraid to lay a big hit on a returner

It could be possible to keep 7 on the 53 man, but I doubt it will happen... most likely:

Smith

LaFell

Naanee

Edwards

Pilares

Martin/Clowney

Tough to narrow down the 6th guy. You never know, they may decide that Naanee doesn't impress them or fit what we're wanting to do...

i was really surprised to see the huge lack of targets to Naanee in the first preseason game considering all the tweets/reports saying that he's pushing for the #2 spot. LaFell definitely got more love from the quarterbacks than Naanee did. even if he fits what they want to do, if none of the QBs are comfortable throwing to him, he's not worth the roster spot...

I think that clowney will be on the practice squad. Martin is starting his career a lot like Welker imo... Only he's not returning punts. But I bet ^He would. Martin is a baller.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
