Cam Newton to Start Friday

If you want to cut someone for the interception, cut DLo and Gross.

Gross got bullrushed straight into Clausen and DLo never turned around for the hot read.

Interception was 40% Gross, 40% DLo, and 20% Clausen.

If you go back and look at that play in slow motion, you'll find that Gross wasn't the cause of that play breaking down. Not that Clausen ever steps up in the pocket, but on that particular play Clausen couldn't step up, because Kalil slipped on the turf, causing a chain reaction, that cause that play to break down.

oh of course they WANT Newton to win it, but they are being fair to Clausen and giving him a chance, it is a competition though and it will depend on how Newton and Clausen play this week vs. Miami.

I have said it before....I don't know if it is so much about being fair to Clausen but simply making Cam go through the process of winning it. Cam is there guy....and that doesn't it a true competition.

So if DLo had turned around to see the pass, he would've been able to run back the 5 yards to catch a pass thrown nowhere near him?

It was a bad play caused by several people. I am not letting JC off the hook, but DLo has to be looking back on that hot read....at least to knock it down.

Gross got plain blown up and damn near cost JC his life on that play.

Honestly, JC was under so much pressure that he should have just taken the sack.

Interception was and 100% Clausen.

Fixed

Again no pocket presence by Pickles, yes Gross got blowed up, but that lob should never got thrown to Dwill, notice how Cam threw a couple balls away while he was in

Five yards? It was behind D-Will, maybe out of reach had he tried to reach back without tripping, but definitely not five yards. C'mon now.

Doubt it...it'll be chalked up to a rookie mistake--nothing to see here and let's move on.

Don't forget Clasuen had his time last year.....

People glowed about his checkdowns, his throws out of bounds.....his nothingness in preseason. Claimed he was smart and savy.....and better than Moore.

Talk about spin....reality was he was scared in the pocket and scared to make throws downfield. We saw the reality of the spin in 13 games and 10 starts.

There was some incredibly unrealistic pressure on both QBs in that game. I'm not too worried, because I'm not sure how many people are going to be able to just dominate Gross like that during the season. Probably just a fluke with that Pierre Paul dude.

I'm surprised they didn't give up more sacks than they did, and that's a testament to both QBs' abilities to roll out and avoid pressure, or make the quick decision.

The right side of that line is going to have to get way better at protecting Cam during those bootlegs. There were guys hanging on him before he took 2 steps.

    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
    • I parked in this lot a few times. It would take over and hour to get out of that lot after games. Never again
