Newton starter vs Bengals, Week 1 starter TBD

You don't have to bold and underline things in a one sentence post.

There were a lot of options.

Our #1 pick of a QB hasn't looked better than anyone taken in the draft to this point and considering he's going to be our starter literally anyone in the NFL.

Jimmy is a good example of an upgrade over Cam, as sad as that is.

Tons of veterans out there that could start as well.

I can't totally agree with that. Cam, IMO, has looked better than the other rookies. Sure, he may not have a TD, but he has taken care of the ball and made good decisions, overall. No rookie has played perfect, but Cam has looked good...and I have said it every time I have said this, for a rookie. Still has a ways to go.

There were some vets we could have signed and focused on drafting a DT or CB, but a vet wouldn't be here longer than 2-3 seasons and Jimmy doesn't have tremendous upside. Cam is younger than any vet we could have gotten and has tremendous upside, especially as opposed to Jimmy. But, those are just my thoughts.

It's perfectly fine...I support Cam as the QB of the future.

When you blindly ignore every issue with him and think everyone who really watches his game and comments on it, positive and negative, has some sort of bias it gets annoying.[/QUOTE]

So when folks don't see how extremely anal u are with Cam's game, it's because they "blindly ignore every issue with him." Is that what u've convinced urself. Okay..

How funny that I would notice this as u sat and critic every ounce of Cam's two games faulting him for every missed ball. A defintion of a Hater:

So accurately describes what u've been doing so far with Cam.

No there weren't.

Hasselbeck, T. Jackson, Vince Young......were not lots options.

Also, you can't claim Clausen is an upgrade to Cam.....that is just silly. Unbiased views have stated Cam fairly out performed Clausen in Spartanburg.....and both have been comparable overall in the 2 meaningless practice games.

I would be happy with Anderson starting the first few weeks, until Cam shows that he's truly ready to take the reigns of the team.

Let's be honest, we're not making the playoffs this year. Might as well let Cam learn some more until we get to the time until he's ready.

It seemed to work for Josh Freeman.

wow rivera, wow

"so uh, guys... we really wanted Cam to look good, but damn, he just isn't stepping up like we hoped, so we're gonna give him three quarters this time and hope he does :)"

just name him the starter, jesus. it's obvious that is what you want to do.

Actually I like that he's gonna give him 3 qtrs...

Gives a rookie QB more looks (he's already behind because of the lockout)

If u really thought that they wanted to start JC... U really haven't been listening to RR's pressers...

Just sayin

I can agree with where you're going with that. Cam has looked, IMO, better than the other rookie QBs to this point. Sure, Mallet hasn't looked terrible, in fact, he's looked good; however, he's also playing for the fuging Patriots and has Tom fuging Brady to learn from. He should be playing great ball. Plus, Mallet isn't necessarily a model guy. Bit of a douche.

Mallet might have been the pick if he didn't do a Hangover move before his meeting with the FO. I guess TRD thinks Kapernick would have been starting QB.

There were 7 snaps in the first quarter that were on 1st or 2nd down and they ran on 3 of them (I think it was 7). They ran the ball. However, by the time we got the ball a third time, I think they wanted to see what Cam could do with his arm because running wasn't generating much in the way of yardage whereas Cam was actually getting positive yards with his arm. Plus, they probably wanted to see how he'd respond when he was down. They were loading the box and daring Cam to beat them, and he couldn't.

Some thing a lot of fans will have to realize is that Chuds was known for not running the ball very much with the Browns, and it's not like they had a bad back there.

they ran on 27% of the running downs. They weren't running the ball. And really it would have been a waste of time to run Williams when you have Cam in getting reps in preseason game 2.

it would also help if someone other than TEs could get open consistantly......they aren't. Not much you can do when they dare you to run and your WRs consistantly can't get seperation. Cam ain't scared to fling it around. Granted he might miss some but there hasn't been much for him to take chances with.

I'll cosign on this. Even if Rivera isn't sold on starting Cam right now (which, I think he is), then it is the right move to give Cam more snaps. Jimmy had plenty of games last year (granted, in a different system) to adjust to the NFL game. Cam needs all the reps he can get. Jimmy should have the entire 4th quarter, with maybe Anderson taking the last drive if our defense gets us the ball back quickly and consistently enough.

Colin and Cam are nearly identical players...

Eh, wouldn't say that. I like Colin, but he's no Cam. He's no Cam at all (you better appreciate the Tombstone reference). Cam's more mobile and has a stronger arm. I think, as far as footwork is concerned from under center, at this point, Colin may have a slight edge. Cam will be a star in this league eventually, if he lives up to his potential. If Colin lives up to his potential, he'll be a good game manager and a solid starter, but not nearly the playmaker that Cam is.

Beside the National championship, Hesiman, arm strenght, Winning, one can't beat out Alex Smith, One was a1st round pick and overall size. But yes they are the same player.

Nobody would have said poo if we pick Coiln with the 1st pick right?

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
