most overrated player in NFL history

top dawg

I agree 100%. Plus I have a hard time considering a guy that great of a leader when they whine to the media like Ray Ray has done over and over.

Wahhhh I need a better DL in front of me...wahhhh I need a real offense wahhh. SHUT UP AND PLAY FOOTBALL RAY RAY.

Tackle stats are super subjective anyway because as Gosselin pointed out in detail awhile ago, most teams keep their own stats and are ...ummm...generous to their guys.

Namath is the first name that always pops into my head when someone asks most overrated of all time though. When I went to the HOF in2007, I was seriously thinking of trying to remove his bust...lol

If you're going by stats, yes. But Namath's bravado changed the course of the NFL/AFL. New Yorkers voted him on their Mount Rushmore on ESPN. Pretty impressive. But yes, his stats weren't even what I would consider average. Craig Mortonesque.

Tell me again why Mike Alsott went to so many pro-bowls.

What was Perry other than a good run-stuffer that Ditka used as a gimmick?

Name a receivers with more accolades who manages to disappear whenever the defense is actively looking to stop him.

Lewis has already been covered...

Tell me again why Mike Alsott went to so many pro-bowls.

Because he was a dogged power runner who scored a lot of TDs?

What was Perry other than a good run-stuffer that Ditka used as a gimmick?

I didn't know that he was considered anything other than that... and for being a fat boy and the record holder for the largest Super Bowl ring size in SB history

Name a receivers with more accolades who manages to disappear whenever the defense is actively looking to stop him.

You're saying that Moss does this?

oh poo he busted out an appeal to authority on me oh no what ever am i going to do now?

which one of these receivers is not in the hall of fame

A: 940 receptions, 68 TDs, 12,721 yards

B: 1101 receptions, 130 TDs, 13,899 yards

C: 750 receptions, 65 TDs, 11,904 yards

Those look like Michael Irvin's numbers? Am I close? I don't know who (A) is, and I think (B) is Carter. Argh. I am extremely tempted to Google right now, but I will not allow myself too.

Anhow, as far as the most overrated player in NFL history goes, I'll fuel the fire with my $.02

Mind you, this is overrated players, not biggest draft bust based on hype or overall selection.

Ever: I'll add to the Joe Namath argument for reasons previously stated by many others.

Modern: Tony Romo. If he wasn't the Cowboys QB he would never have his name mentioned or be dating Jessica Simpson. I'm eager to see how he does this year without T.O. I've never seen anyone buckle under the pressure in such dramatic style as Romo always does. It makes me laugh.

Hmm. 78 posts and no mention of Reggie Bush? Dude's not even an every down football player.

I agree when he came in it was all "whos gonna win the Reggie Bush Lotery" or whatever. Like he was gonna be the greatest RB ever. Turned out to be a decent returner, and an injury riddled RB.

every wide receiver has games where, for whatever reason, they don't put up good numbers.

randy moss has some of the gaudiest numbers of all time, along with being one of the most physically dominant.

to insinuate that he's the most overrated wr in nfl history is lunacy.

This thread isn't about bad players, it's about overrated ones. Look at what Moss did in Oakland, then convince me he's as great as everyone says he is. He's good, there's no denying that at all. I just think he's overrated.

Can you imagine what Larry Fitzgerald would do in New England?
