Not to mention that we HAVE NO DEPTH at OL......

I'm not really sure why so many have wanted us to do something in FA. If there is nothing out there you think you need, why sign somebody? Even if Peppers had signed his tender and were traded, I don't think the FO would have signed anybody. This is the mentality that has made us the fattest country in the world. Just because you can, does it mean you should? As I have said, and so have others, we will get somebody. I just happen to think it will be after the draft, not before.

I am expecting a big day on draft day.

If not I expect some big news around that weekend.

With our $$$$ issues we cant really afford a big FA splash. The Peppers trade will just let us back in the 1st round and some room to sign our guys.

Plus we always tend to pick up some folks who are "post draft" cuts...

Plus, lets be honest here. We haven't had the best of luck with FAs the last few years. Who was the last one that has really worked out?

just last year we signed muhsin muhammad, starting DE Tyler Brayton, and starting rg keydrick vincent

Maybe FAs are kind of like the stock market, over inflated. What if the Panthers are waiting for the hoopla and deep pockets to over sign marginal players? I am going to have to trust Fox and Hurney to do what they know best because last season we were in the same boat. A lot of people here were giving the FO a big WTF? for our trades and free agent pickups.

Be patient and lets see what happens.

That's what it looks like to me. It seems like a lot of fans want the FO to do something big in free agency just because.

Last year the Panthers went out and got an over-the-hill receiver that no one else wanted, a first round bust from the Raiders, and a few tons of offensive guards that used to have good games but who weren't really pursued by other teams. We turned that motley collection into three starters.

We will probably take the same approach this year on the defensive line as we did last year on the offensive line. Look for one good starter out of that activity. I'm assuming that Peppers plays as a Panther next year, and it will be another contract year for him so that's going to be solid. Is anyone seriously worried about our linebackers? The secondary is suspect at Lucas' spot but we have decent depth there.

Right now the Panthers are doing what they're supposed to be doing. You can say they've done nothing, but locking up a pro-bowl left tackle and a defensive end who didn't want to play here is something, and there's still a lot of time left.

If you were among the people who were cheering the Brayton signing last year and predicted great things from Vincent, then go ahead and complain about the lack of activity. Otherwise, just shut up and chill. :)

    • Jones was brought in to compete with AR but Steichen was allowed to be real and say AR isnt ready and may never be. It's not a bad thing to acknowledge the reality a lot of these high QB draft picks don't make it as NFL franchise QBs. It's not a knock on Bryce, Stroud or AR. It's just the NFL.  Ive been insistent we needed more than Dalton. Other than the Raiders game, he was horrible. Plummer. Why bother. It's like we put the minimal amount of effort to a position that's actually pretty damned significant. Hell, look at Nick Foles. Backup QB wins the damn SB. Also, how many times have we seen a backup come in and never relinquish the job. Brady was Bledsoe's backup, and an injury launched a career that led to 7 SB rings.  There were guys available that were better than Dalton. We could and should have done more for the betterment of the team. If we had brought in Howell instead of Dalton, and Bryce played like he has until now, then Howell went in and started lighting it up, we would be able to say with certainty that the problems are Bryce problems because this guy can do it but Bryce can't. Dalton has already shown us he's not really capable of a lot. Maybe he surprises us, but I don't have high hopes of HQ QB play.  I don't care who the QB is. Bryce, AR, Jameis, some off world clone of Cam we found in a time capsule next to JR'S pool. Just be real and honest in all QB evaluations and may the best QB win the job. Do what's best for the Panthers, not just any one player.
    • Next week it’s “they’re playing the way they have to play on offense with Andy Dalton at QB”
    • You need a good sense of humor to call that funny. But I was lamenting that the other day. We are winning some games with that approach. Took us two and a half years to get back to where we started from.
