I hate thinking this way..but..

Should we have signed Richard Marshall, assuming he would have stayed?

I mean the guy only signed a one year deal, and we are about 8 million under the cap. His contract dollar amount is not listed on rotoworld, but I am guessing it is 3-4 million.

I think we would all thought we were going to upgrade at the 2CB, but now that seems unlikely.

Trust me, I am not one to second guess every decision by the FO, and I don't know what kind of locker room guy he was, but this seems so weird that we let our own draft pick walk, especially since we are so thin at the position.

he wanted out, like Pep.. we should have traded him, like Pep, even if it was for a bag of chips..

I was thinking that it wasn't necessarily about getting out, I thought it was more about him getting paid. I guess he could have felt disrespected by not being offered an extension, but hell, nobody was.

Wish we could have signed him to a one year deal.

Now this could be it, I did not know of any personal stuff between him and the staff.

One of the first times I got to watch a practice, Meeks called Marshall out rather loudly. That happens with coaches, of course, but that plus things I read from interviews with Marshall (and speculation about him) gave me the impression he and Meeks weren't the best of friends. If so, then Meeks being retained as DB coach probably didn't help.

I haven't been a big fan of Marshall as a starter, but objectively is he better than what we have now? Probably :(

Some things are just inevitable though.

Marshall was a dickhead.

Best thing the Panthers could have done is to hold back on some of their overspending (like giving DLo maybe 10mil in guarantees instead of 20mil) and went and picked up another corner. Banking on Hogan not only playing, but playing well, was a mistake.

He was far and away better than any of our other corners not named Gamble, but for the last 2-3 years I just remember him constantly bitching. It's too bad Gettis went down, because it would have been fun to see him burn Marshall for a TD. I just can't believe they didn't pick up a guy like Rogers. He's on a 1 year deal in SF not making a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
