Travelle Wharton

Do the rest of you guys love him as much as I do? We are all sitting here and complaining about the RG spot(and rightfully so) but this man is solid and underrated IMO over at LG. Team Leader. We all love Smitty, DeAngelo, Olsen, and Stewart(our proven stars) but these are the kinds of consistent and capable players we should be thankful for and praise more often!

I'll always remember when Stew broke off that big run (against GB I believe) and ran out of gas near the endzone. A defender caught him from behind and stripped the ball loose. Wharton jumped on it for the recovery, like 60 yards away from the LOS. That's some hustle for a big ugly.

But all in all, I'm very very glad we have him on our squad. Above average? Yes. At times dominate? Yes. Overpaid? Maybe, but I'd rather overpay for a solid LG than underpay for what ever we have at RG right now.

You know, I almost put something about that Green Bay play in my original post. I remember the announcers sucking him off about that play.

Travelle Wharton - 2011: $5.4 million, 2012: $5.7 million

So I guess if you were Travelle you would have said "Naaaa Marty, just write me down for a cool mill and that'll be good."

Please.

You can only hold someone's pay against them if he isn't performing. That is not the case here. He may be a little overpaid, but by underrated I meant no one other than Panther fans and analysts really know who he is.

No, not really. He's a barely above average guard that's overpaid.

Cool. Let's cut him and throw in a shitty LG and see how far that gets us.

Some teams would kill to get a "barely above average" LG.

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
