Just heard Mick Mixon at Lunch Rotary

He talked for 30 minutes at the Shelby Lunch Rotary meeting.

He didn't break that much new ground but did say that they are looking to upgrade at corner and on the interior defense saying that with 500 players being released, there will be some good guys to pick up. He talked about how Fox would play not to lose but this year the mentality was to bury the opponent. Said part of the reason we were going with Cam was because he had the best upside to become a dominating player.

On a personal note I found him very funny and engaging as a speaker. He had great stories and tells them very well. While he joked that the Panthers should have paid fans for what we put out on the field last year, he didn't offer to rebate my PSl money. He talked about richardson being back and his old self this past year. Said Jerry has colorful language and kids everyone quite a bit. Said JR came up to him a week or so ago and asked how he was doing. Mixon said fine. Then he said we are looking for a good season from the Panthers this year and hoped Mick was up to the challenge as well and didn't "@#$%" it up. They laughed and moved on. But it was a very good speech and actually better than he appears when I hear him on the radio.

Lots of folks seem to hate him here but my assessment of him just went up.

I think he is good commentary while you're actually watching the game. When I had to stream radio broadcast of it, he gave next to no detail about what was actually going on. "Williams gets the handoff." *pause* "Waiting for a flag..." *pause* "Touchdown!"

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
