Are we abandoning the 4-3 already?? (conspiracy theory)

Great plan. Probably just need to lose Beason Davis and Anderson since they aren't exactly ideal for a 3-4..... Let's do it!!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!

Perhaps although I believe that Davis and Beason would flourish in any system. I don't think the difference in 4-3 ILB and 3-4 ILBs are drastic enough that they couldn't adapt.

I will admit that I am not as knowledgeable as some on that side of the ball so you may be right.

ok let's go over this for the umptenth time, we are not switching over to a 3-4 Base defense. rivera has already said we will have elements of 3-4 or packages based on situation & opponent. we probably kept 8 linebackers because we feel they are among the 53 best players we have. conner , gaither, & j. williams have started & played well at times & t. williams & senn are great on special teams. 2 of them probably don't suite up on sundays IMO

also the packers defense has looked bad this preseason. it doesn't mean they're going to look terrible during the regular season as well. conversely the Texans defense has been ranking top ten.

you guys really make a big deal about this bad preseason defense thing

And our defense looked great during preseason last year, while it was at best average during the regular season.

fox has kept 8 linebackers on the roster before

8 linebackers wouldn't worry me so much if we had just one quality DT on our roster.

I don't see how we go into the season with our current crop of DTs. And I am still scratching my head as to why we cut half of our DTs to only pick up Marcus Harrison in return.

But Rivera is much smarter than I am so I am sure he has an idea of what he is planning.

3-4 linebackers are asked to take on offensive lineman more so than what we've done in the past. we want our linebackers to run free & make plays which is what they do best. think to last year when beason struggled on the weak side because he spent more time thinking because he had added responsibilites which negated what he does best. if you want a better example just look at aj hawk who went from being a above average pro bowl caliber middle linebacker to average 3-4 inside linbacker

Our defense was good last year. Overall defensive statistics take a beating when you are on the field @70% of the time every game. Offense not sustaining drives was more of an issue with the defense than the defense itself last season.

I believe we were top 10 in advanced statistics ratings
