Pretty good company here:

Most Pass Yards in Season Opener

Since 1960

1994 Dan Marino 473

2000 Kurt Warner 441

2010 Peyton Manning 433

2011 Cam Newton 422

1994 Drew Bledsoe 421

*** All these guys made the playoffs the same year and became probowlers

yes, and

those guys were also playing for quite sometime also

It's clear the panthers are not superbowl bound as yet. the fact that cam did what took those other QB years with their team to do is feat in and of itself.

Here is a comparison of Cam's stats against all first overall pick QBs since 1989, in their first starts as an NFL quarterback.. QBs marked with an asterisk are the ones who opened their first season as the starter.

Of note the most comparable performance to Cam's is Peyton's, throwing a similar number of passes and being one of the few QBs to be throwing for a high number of yards per attempt and yards per completion. *disclaimer* I am not saying Cam is the next Peyton Manning, just showing how significant this performance really is in a historical perspective. *disclaimer*

I don't feel these numbers need too much analysis, I think Cam's performance stands for itself.

Wow...Cam's stats are eye opening when compared to the much more "preferred QBs." It's funny that those chosen by the elite talking heads of our sports media had more intereceptions and the ratio of throws to connect stat is higher to the kid who the media has been labeling as so inaccurate simply because of what he did at the Combine.

I wonder how "Muccie" of NFLN feels now. He was in such defense of Matt Stafford when another analysts said Cam was better than him. He went on about how much more accurate Matt was than Cam. Funny, Matt's throwing attempts is the same amout as Cam's during his rookie debut with less connection, 0 tds and three interceptions but I'm sure it wasn't his fault, just like Sam Bradfords...NOPE.

Also,we won't dare compare Cam to Peyton. That honor is reserved for more worthy QBs like Andrew Luck...Sheesh

Yes, but ur also comparing a rookie to guys who have been playing on their teams before they establish those numbers.
