Hodgey has an agenda. He always does this.

Did it with Vick.

Did it with VY.

He will do it with Terrelle Pryor

He will do it with some kid who's in HS right now

He will do it as long as people let him and dont call him out for it.

Hodgey is another who cant admit when he's wrong, but will passionately tell you what someone "cant do" or how they're not like "Manning". I hate people like that.

yeah. i'd even give him the running game being somewhat effective(if Stewart's run that was called back was factored into it), but he really went out of his way to try to keep from giving Cam any credit.

oh yeah. when he said something about only making one read, the other guy(have no idea who he was) pointed to the monitor and asked him why it seemed like he was going through his reads on the play on the monitor, but i can't remember his response.

when he rated his performance on a scale of 1 to 10, he said that it was a 7 or 8. he said that if the team had won, he'd bump it up to a 10.

it's hard to argue with him there, but a 7 still seems kinda low, imo.

Both him and Skip tried to say he had great protection and time to make throws. Then went on to say how Arizona was bringing the blitz so Cam was able to make plays down field. WTF? Cam was sacked like 4 or 5 times and hit probably over 10. Don't know the exact numbers but I don't think the two watched the same game as all of us.

I'm sure ESPN would like to think of Merril (wtf kind of name is that?) as their expert on-air personality. I agree that he's on-air, but his personaltiy (what little he has) make me want to vomit, and he's no more an expert than any other consistantly wrong talking head who can't get a job in the NFL.

this is a link to Merril Hodge from Mike and Mike from this morning on Cam Newton. He talks about Cam around 5 mins into it

He doesn't know poo! lol

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=6960681

here's a transcript... he gave him props for trusting his guys but that's it.

MM: Let's go to Cam Newton. Week one he looked good, stood in there, looked god

MH: If you watch that game, they really did just attack half the field, you don't need to run routes into the whole field. First touchdown was a busted coverage, but if you look at how they managed him, they ran the football extremely well. When they did that they attacked one side of the field. Guys won for him, guys got open, I thought it was very simple and routine, and the other thing I thought he(Cam) did a good job of was he trusted guys. Even though they may have been covered, he trusted them to make plays for him. What you saw at the end of the game was they had to be more dynamic and they just don't have that yet - (? driving to the 1 yard line = not having it? the fuuuck)

MM: He's a rookie too - (Hoge cuts him off)

MH: - That's going to be a problem too for the next couple years until they can now be a full complement to an offense.

MM: John Elway completed one pass in his first game. Cam threw for 400 yards.

What do you think it is, KT? What are you trying to say?

Hates Cam = Racist

In some cases it may be true, so better make sure we cover everybody with the blanket statement regardless of how many racially indifferent casualties there may be. Because if we rightly accuse 5 and wrongly accuse 50 then we still caught 5 racists!

CC is spot on.

We didn't just get a fantastic, Heisman winning, National Championship winning QB, we got something exponentially better. Cam Newton is going to rewrite the NFL record books. No one foresaw this kid being this good. Cam Newton will be mentioned in the same sentence with guys like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers. Its not a matter of "if", its when.

This dude has serious problems. He knows exactly what he's talking. Him being a former running back and being the expert quarterback analyzer that he is. He is so biased. It dosent matter if cam runs and 88 yd touchdown or 7 tds passing this guy will always revert the gamechanginh player to the running backs play in the game. He must have some sort if grudge against newton bc I guess he knows that cam will rush for more yard than he did. I can honestly be a better analyst than meril hodge. This guy and his dumb ass "factor back". He sure as hell wasn't a factor back. I now mute my television and look away when I see face

    • Dalton is ancient by NFL standards. Howell is only 25.  Howell's only year as a starter he put up almost 4k yards, 21/21 with a 43.2 QBR while being sacked 65 times.  This past year and the 3rd starting, which many would consider to be Bryce's best, he barely put up 3k yards 23/11 with a QBR of 47.6 while being sacked 27 times.  Pickett 4 years in the league, with 27 starts, he's amassed 4900 yards, 16/16 with a 53.6 QBR.  Now if Bryce were injured for a season, which QB would you say has more potential to step in and run an offense? I'd say Howell only because in a single season he threw for 1k yards less, more tds and granted more ints in 11 less games as a starter than Pickett's whole career.  Everyone is saying Pickett sucks, Howell sucks, but what I'm seeing is Bryce is right on par with them. Howell is on his 5th team, so is KP, yet Bryce just got a 5th year extension putting up pretty much similar numbers. The bar for QB on this organization is really low.  Did I want Howell? I didn't care. I wanted someone, anyone, who can potentially be better than what we've had the past 3 years or who we signed as a backup. We do not have even a mid tier NFL QB on the roster right now.  If Howell was brought in as camp fodder and didn't make the cut, wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. If we bring in another QB via the draft, I hope it's someone who could have the potential to be a starting QB with some development because that's the whole point.  We can't be afraid to bring in anyone who might have the potential to unseat Bryce or take his job if he's injured. The goal is to get winning seasons and make SB runs with hopefully a victory or 2. Pickett doesn't accomplish that. Dalton hasn't been able to even be in consideration for that role in over 2 years.
    • Next 2, Brooklyn and Philly are must wins that we should have no problems winning. Other 2 are Knicks and Celtics in Charlotte, split those. I think that 5 of 6 is very doable. And probably will be necessary for our pursuit of a 6-8 seed. Hawks keep rolling sadly but at least Miami and Orlando finally slipping up after they both had long winning streaks like Atlanta. 76ers obviously in a free fall
