QB Cam Newton "didn't look like a rookie" according to coach Mike McCarthy of the Packers, who has said repeatedly this week that he was impressed with Newton in evaluating film from the Panthers' loss at Arizona last week. But Green Bay coaches gained some valuable insight by the end of Carolina's narrow loss on Sunday on how to prepare for the young quarterback. The Cardinals were liberal at crunch time with their pressure packages and finally had Newton frazzled and making some poor, rookie-esque decisions with the football. He was sacked four times. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers is assertive by nature with his calls but may be compelled to go hard after Newton early in the game so as not to let him get comfortable and into a rhythm on his five-step drops to make the right throws. The Packers will have to get home on those because the Panthers have the ability to create some mismatches down the field with skillful receiver Steve Smith and playmaking tight ends Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey.

Look for alot of screen plays and draws early and often if Green Bay continues to blitz. Deangelo and Goodson on screen plays are super dangerous.

Half the battle with blitzes is proper play calls and checks.

Completely agree.I thought he did well last week granted he has only been with the system for a month and half. Looking forward to see if Cam will recognize blitzes and make proper checks.

I was surprised we didn't use screens more last week. The coaches may be more comfortable going downfield against 1-on-1 coverage than throwing short where it is often more crowded.

A lot of pick 6's come off short throws.

Yeah, and I think Capers is savy enough to bring the blitz with a rb spy...hoping to force cam into poor screen decisions. But..Rivera and Chud might think, instead of run of the mill screens what about fake rb screens to the opposite side to a wr screen. Oh the mind games the coaches probably play...

Cam needs to learn how to sell the screen a little bit better.

Let GB blitz and bring pressure on Cam. Cam will just do the samething he did to the Cards Secondary last week, burn them. Once GB gets burned enough by Carolina then Capers will back off and play more of a 4 man rush game. Then hopefully that will open the run game for us.

They may not have to with Bell at rt.I cannot understand why they could not find someone with a resume better than an undrafted guy that has been cut by a couple of teams against Clay Matthews.:banghead:

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
