Stewart wasn't down!

There was no video evidence that clearly proved he was down. Without it according to nfl rules, the play should of stood. I can only imagine the reaction if this call went against the Pats in NE, Jets or Giants in NY, Bears in Chicago. I dont think he would have had the guts to make that call in the black hole up in Oakland. A police escort would have been necessary to preserve life. LOL

Thanks for proclaiming the thread closed. You'll have to excuse me if I ignore you.

It's not a matter of his elbow being down or not. It wasn't called down on the field. The video showed no conclusive evidence that his elbow hit. It should not have been reversed. That's the rules.

So Rivera is wrong? Just checking.

Actually yes.

Its not a matter of whether or not the elbow was on the ground. Its a matter of whether or not there is "indisputable video evidence" to overturn the call on the field. Since the evidence doesn't seem to exist JStew and the Panthers were jobbed.

And we saw all of the footage, multiple times, in extra slow-mo, with possible zoom that the ref got to see? That the ref got to ask to rewind, play back, rewind again, slow this part, slow that part, etc.? Or did we only see what CBS showed us before they went to commercial?

It is obvious by one angle (I think it is the angle they showed on the replay at field level from the endzone camera) that, at SUPER slow-mo, you see Stewart's hand hit the ground and his elbow digs into a Jaguars defender's ribs or hip. Regardless, the elbow is clearly NOT on the ground, so the call should not have been overturned. They had it right the first time. I don't even think the head touched the ground either. It was a perfect back-tuck roll.

not even close...

true but there sure is a lot of talk about a play that if it had a been confirmed would have been pure luck and nothing at all to be pumping our chests about

not to mention people watching from home got better views than anyone and nothing was proved either way

yes the play should have stood based on the original non whistle but was nothing to make a huge deal out of.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
